if you are lactating sufficiently to meet your child's need, you may not start with any top feed. Otherwise, if there is need to give top feed, you can gradually start with top feed. Start by replacing one of your feeds with top feed. You can start with a lesser amount of 50 ml or so and then gradually increase the amounts according to child's acceptance. Formula milk is made of animal milk only and has added nutrients to match it most closely with breast milk. Some prefer fresh animal milk (do not give cow's milk to a child below one year of age) over formula milk. Packet milk is pasteurised animal milk only which is more hygienically packed and hence safer. You can also read the following blog to help you decide on the type of milk Use a sterilised spoon instead of bottle to give top feed as bottlefeeding can create nipple confusion and may pose hygiene issues too.
