Dear doctor, my daughter is 13 year old and she got her periods when she was 10 years old. She is gaining weight but not height, her height now is 4'9". She has become overweight, now she is around 64 kgs. We dont eat outside except when we go out for marriage or any party. We are vegetarians but eat egg. She is active and happy child. I am very worried. Our food generally is breakfast in the morning which is idli, dosa, roti, any fried rice, poha or upma, etc items like this. Lunch is white rice plus curries, curd. Dinner would be rotis and curries. Eat seasonal fruits in between. Sometimes homemade snacks. Her physical activity includes walking, or skipping. What am i doing wrong, how can i help her to bring to normal weight. I am worried and confused. Sometimes, i tell her to just skip meals but she doesn't listen and tells she is hungry. Please advice me. Thanks again for your suggestions.nutrition Corner
I hope you are well. I would suggest that you see a gynecologist and also, please don't ask her to skip meals, During the initial years when girls get their periods, they gain weight. However, excessive weight gain isn't a good thing for her and you need to check if there's some hormonal issue.
