It is always advisable to start with pureed foods first. Start with Single grain cereal or single food. Rice cereal is one of the most well tolerated cereals, least allergenic plus the taste and texture is close to breast milk, hence its an ideal first food for the baby. Next comes pureed fruits like cooked pureed apple, mashed banana, cooked pureed sweet potato, carrot, pear or peach. Start with single food first and wait for few days (3-4 days) to check baby’s tolerance and then introduce another new food. Once you know that baby is tolerating certain foods then you can start mixing these foods to give variety to your baby. Remember, solid feeds at this age, should not replace Breast milk feeds or other milk feeds and it should still continue to be the main food for your baby, offer only 1-2 tsp and that too 1-2 times in a day.
