Hello! My son has peculiar problem that when he laughs he starts getting hiccups and then he doesn't stop easily. Is this a serious problem or just a regular hiccups? Does he need medical treament? Kindly guide me.

Hiccups for a short period is quite common. It is because of the diaphragm muscle irritation and subsequent sudden contraction. The usual causes are sudden bloating of the stomach by air or food . Laugh or crying can also induce hiccups , but it's nothing to be alarmed about.
