Babies need to take minimum of 8–12 (or more) times in 24 hours. Newborns will often feed more frequently and same with older babies who are sick, teething. Feed baby whenever he shows signs of hunger. Some babies may prefer “cluster feed,” that is small small feeds in a short period, then taking a longer break until the next feed. Newborns may have cluster feed all night long, while older babies will have cluster feed in the evenings. Baby will give you many indications that he is full, like, sucking will slow down or stop , you may not hear swallowing sound, baby’s arms and hands relax and baby will leave the breast, and will not try taking it again. Also, when you feel, baby has finished, try checking it by putting baby on your breasts again, if he starts sucking again then it means that he needs more milk. Also make sure baby is positioned well and attaches well to your breasts during feeding. Remember, Breastfeeding works on a supply and demand, so more the baby feeds and more the breast is stimulated, more milk will be produced.
