This gives a sense of ease with the language at an early age. Expression supersedes usage to pick the language. #2 While storytelling, Is it fine if I translate the sentences in mother tongue for better understanding? It's proven by research that native language learning for understanding new languages is the best, so you are doing the right thing. It would be helpful, if you could also implement some of the above suggestions as shared under #1. In fact native language usage & speaking if is good, it's only going to be helpful in learning any other language. #3 What's the right/sufficient time to spend speaking the language with my child? You don't have to set a time for this as such, but instead, create as many avenues and occasions for your daughter to experience/play with the language. for e.g. Introduce her grandparents to storytelling books & let your daughter tell them the story in english, or read it to them with expressions. You could also get language focused games like scrabble for your daughter and she could play with it while you are away. On a day-to-day basis, you and your daughter could have a half an hour exclusive story telling time, when you could read some of her favourite stories to her while enacting various characters/emotions. That could be followed by your daughter doing the same and sharing another story with you. This could even be a bedtime story.
