hi my daughter is in 1st std she is good in studies but she doesnt like to study hindi she is afraid of that language bcoz it is newly introduced to her and she speaks more in the class in all parents meeting mam tels me that she is very talkative and she spks in her mother tongue not in english plz suggest what to do

It is normal. Language is acquired only through practice. She has to be given exposure daily to the languages so that she becomes fluent. Or else she will keep avoiding. It is important that one parent speaks to her in the language you wish her to become fluent. It is ok if she makes mistakes. Be patient and suggest the correct answer. You could help her pick up english with some time and patience. Try co-reading the books together, telling her a story in english along with expressions/enacting a character. Buy sEnglish magazines suitable for children like Magic Pot , Chandamama. Speak to her in both the languages interchangeably from time to time and she will pick the language soon. Speaking fluently will take some more time, but shall happen too with patience and time. It would help if one parent converses in English. Her tv time could have cartoon or the Natgeo/discovery channels in English for 30 minutes. Ask her to pick five words from the newspaper Play games like crossword, scrabble and spelling bee Make the learning happen with games and activities.
