Hi. My name us Jansi. I have had severe breast pain and cracked nipples in the intial days of breast feeding my baby. I bled from the nipples and it was very painful. So, psychologically I was very upset and guilty that I couldn't feed him properly. I gave him formula along with my milk. He is doing well now. He is 2 months in 2 days and I seriously wanted to know if I can exclusively breast feed him now. Can I increase my supply after 2 months? Initially, I thought formula was convenient and he is happy too. So I chose to pump thrice a day. But, now I feel I should've tried harder to exclusively give him breast milk. Is there a way to increase my milk after 2 months after the baby is born?education Corner
Starting with formula at an early age can result in reduction of breast milk. Breast milk production depends on baby's sucking, if there is no sucking then there will be less production and slowly the production will stop. Hence you try to restart breast feeding. Do not worry, it is possible and you will be able to do it. But you have to be little patient. For this, firstly, try to put the baby to the breast as often as possible (every 2-3 hours at least). Even if the baby isn’t feeding, have skin-to-skin time. Keep the baby close to your body as much as possible; touch his cheek with yours this will also help. Or try using a pump or hand express for 10-15 minutes on each breast 4-5 times in a day.. Initially milk supply will be low, but gradually it will increase. Baby may not like to suck so for that you can first take out milk with the help of breast pump and then put baby on breasts or take out milk and use the feeding bottle to feed your milk. All in all, continue trying to restart breast-feeding, as this will ensure healthy growth of your baby. You should also take a healthy balanced hihh protein diet and plenty of oral fluids to increase milk. For cracked or sore nipples, use a nipple cream and breast shield . I hope these give you some ideas.
