you should wait till the baby is 6 months old. This is because any other food would not provide the nutrients, which milk does. Moreover the digestive system is still developing and may not have enough enzymes to digest other foods properly. At 6 months, you may start with strained vegetable soup including green leafy vegetables (with milk), fresh fruit juice, ragi porridge, rice kheer, suji kheer or phirni etc. You can gradually start with mashed banana, boiled potatoes, dal water also. Boiled water can be given especially after each solid feed. Starting with a spoon or two you may gradually increase the amount. Keep the seasonings mild, keep the consistency flowing initially.
