Answer:
Gestational diabetes can increase risk of having a big baby, increased liquor, growth restricted or small baby, early or preterm delivery, increased chances of having a cesarean section, increased chances of having bleeding and infection etc. A uncontrolled blood sugar can also cause fetal distress and even fetal demise rarely. Babies born to diabetic mothers may need admission to the neonatal unit for treatment of various problems. So it is very important to control it adequately. Consult your doctor for prescription of adequate measures and medication if required to control blood sugars. You should also do walking everyday after taking approval from your doctor. Consult a nutritionist for prescription of an adequate diet chart. Some general dietary guidelines are: divide your into smaller portions, eat small frequent meals and take an early breakfast. Avoid free sugars, sweets, crisps, fried and oily food, preprocessed foods, sugary drinks and juices, rice , potato etc. Take high fibre diet and drink plenty of water. I hope this helps, take care.
