How much time can i store expressed milk that it could maintain its nutritional supplements as fresh milk?nutrition Corner
You can store Breast Milk in clean glass or plastic bottles (BPA Free) with tight caps, hard plastic cups that have tight caps, or in sterile sealable bags. Store in amounts that you feel your baby will take in each feed. On an average you can store 60-120ml of milk in one bag or bottle. It's better if you put a label on each with the date indicating when the milk was pumped. Cool your pumped milk and refrigerate it or you can freeze it if your baby is not taking it immediately. General guidelines for storing milk are- At room temperature (less than 25 C) for 4 to 8 hours In refrigerator for 3 to 5 days (0-4 C) In freezer for up to 3 months Do not heat it or microwave the milk. Microwave can form hot air pockets that can be dangerous. For using the frozen milk, first move it to the refrigerator (it takes 24 hours to thaw), then warm by placing the bag or bottle in a pan containing warm water and use it within the next 24 hours.
