how to counsel a child after a not up to mark performance in exam ? Also how to counsel ourselves to accept the result and encourage the child for future?child-psychology Corner
I think you mean guiding. People tend to confuse between advising and counselling. Counselling is done by professionals only. As parents we can guide our wards. So if your child has not done well - Look at the process of studying - find out if he has understood the concepts If he has revised enough - if he then needs a good study routine. Daily revision helps in approaching the exams. Now to change your mindset - failure is part of life. Failure tells us which area we have to focus on and work on it. Here failure is not performing up to the mark. Failure is alright. We ought to understand that the process is more important than result. Hence concentrate on the process. Make learning fun. Give quiz and tests on weekends to gauge your son’s academic performance. Appreciate your Son’s progress. - say good job rather than good boy. So he grows knowing that if he works hard and systematically he gets good results. Create an atmosphere of encouragement and motivation. Build in the reading habit.
