Children of age 5 will start exploring and experimenting. They will want to do things to see what happens. They will also try to challenge and push boundaries to see how much they can get away with.
If you want them to listen to you, then you must connect with them. You can do so by
1) Praising them for all the acceptable behaviour.
2) Not screaming and shouting and not beating.
3) Being kind but firm.
4) Explaining to them why they have to do something. Showing them how it is good for them.
5) Re-directing their behaviour. If they are behaving in an unacceptable behaviour, you can distract them by showing them something they like, or bringing out their toys to play with. Sometimes if it is safe to do so you can also ignore tantrums.
