I am really concerned about my toddler's height and health. She is 3 and a half years old, a little fussy when she eats but still manages to eat quite well according to her age. But amongst all her friends and cousins, she is the shortest as of now. I have also consulted a pediatrician and he has given a Syrup to increase her appetite. I have been giving it quite regularly, but i cant see much of a difference in her health. What can be the reason, and is it a matter of concern at this age?

height is largely controlled by our genes (parents' height). You may however give a high protein and calcium diet to help in height gain. Similarly once older, encourage the child in games and sports like badminton, lawn tennis, throw ball, stretching on monkey bars etc. Give milk and its products like curd, paneer, cheese, buttermilk etc. You may give these as fruit shakes/ fruit lassi. Alternatively paneer/cheese can be added to their roti/sandwich/dosa/uttapam etc. Increase intake of dals/legumes, eggs (hard boiled cut into small bite sized pieces or omlette etc.) poultry/fish (curry, snacks, cutlets, tikka, in rice or in soup). She should keep doing her required exercises and can take up these sports like lawn tennis/basket ball etc. Do take advice of your doctor too. All the best and do keep us posted.
