From one year two of age you should start with three meal pattern, i.e. breakfast, lunch and dinner along with snacks. Introduce one new food at a time, let the child accept it and gets used to it for few days. Introduce another new food only after a week. Do not introduce new foods back to back, it may confuse the child and would lower his acceptance. Try and keep the consistency thin to semi solid, depending on child's preference and swallowing/chewing capacity. You can give porridge of suji, sagi, dalia, rice flakes, ragi etc. Kheer of apple, rice etc. halwa of suji, atta, pumpkin, gajar, sweet potato etc. Khichri, upma, soft scrambled egg yolk, soups, mashed veggies, chapatti, rice,idli, dosa, uttapam,fruits etc. Give cereals like rice with dal/khichdi form, porridges, small bites of chapatti, pasta, upma, idli etc. Dals /legumes well cooked. Start with mashed and bring to regular consistency as the toddler starts chewing. Finger foods like cutlets, hard boiled eggs, small sandwiches, rolls, whole fruits. Small pieces of foods that can be handled with spoon or fork. Veg desserts like carrot /pumpkin/ghia halwa. Spinach/carrot burfi. For your son, you can try the following Milk should be restricted to 400-500 ml maximum in a day, so that the child doesn't fill the stomach with milk only. Fix meal times for the child, that is with family meal timings. Keep a gap of at least 2-3 hours between the feeds be it milk or solid. Don't let the child eat in between. Give healthy options, which should be what the family is eating. Try including the favourite healthy options for the meals. You can make snacks healthier by using whole grain flour, vegetables & fruits. Try & make regular food interesting like chapatti veggies as Kathi roll or vegetables, cheese/shredded chicken spread over roti with ketchup. Give variety your child in foods. Encourage the child to indulge in more outdoor games and activities to increase appetite. Hope this helps.
