my 2. 8yrs old son's potty has become vey hard for some days . sometimes it also has red spots. Even he afraid when he sits on the pot and cries. Few days ago he took medicine of cold and cough .Is it possible that the reason of hard potty is those medicines. I don't understand what should i do to keep his potty normal. pls. suggest.

Constipation in children

If his motion is hard to pass even though it happens daily, you must review his diet and fluid intake. For constipation both fluid and fiber intake has to be increased. For that Give more water. If the child doesn’t take plain water include fluids like juices, soups etc. Give dals with husk in khichri form or add to the soups. Give porridge of dalia, oats, ragi, rice falkes. Alternatively these whole cereals can be used for khichri, upma or idlis too. Give plenty of fruits & vegetables. Hard fruits like apple, pear can be given as stew. Fruits like banana, papaya, cheeku be given as it is or in a mashed form. Avoid giving refined cereals/ maida products. You can also apply castor oil in a circular motion to get relief from constipation. If the child is in discomfort , then you will have to give stool softeners /laxative - on prescription from your doctor. Please see your paediatrician about this.
