Most breastfed babies will gain weight in a consistent and expected pattern as long as they latch on well and feed often. But, if you're breastfeeding and your newborn is gaining weight slowly or inconsistently, he may not be getting enough breast milk. Here are some of the reasons he is not gaining weight: a. Poor Latch b. Infrequent Breastfeeding c. Too-Short Nursing Sessions d. Pain or Discomfort: If your baby is not comfortable because of a birth injury or an infection such as thrush in his mouth, he may not breastfeed well, and therefore he may be gaining weight slowly. e. Low or Delayed Breast Milk Supply Kindly see if your baby is having any one of these, try to correct it. If the baby is still not gaining weight. Kindly consult a pediatrician.
