Supplementary foods should be started from 6 months onward as per the WHO guidelines. From 6 months,Mashed fruits like Banana, mango, ripe chickoo can be started. Dal water can be given and porridge made from suji/ragi/wheat/ rice mashed can be started. Boiled egg yolk, mashed rice with dal(khichdi), mashed vegetables, chapatti softened with milk can also be started. Green leafy vegetables can be added to dals or khichdi( add little fat/oil etc to the preparation). FEEDING FREQUENCY should be once to begin with ( replacing one milk feed with semi solid) and then gradually should be increased to 3-4 times/day in addition to breast milk. Start one cereal at a time and wait for few days...and then introduce another cereal. Rice is good to start with. Hope this helps!
