They cannot be made normal. But you can put them into a school which is inclusive Set them Into a routine. They would be intelligent in their own way. So observe and see what sparks them off. As a parent please learn everything you can about autism. Become an expert on your child. Accept your child as she is. Enjoy your child's differences and celebrate small successes. Please never compare her with others. Feeling u conditionally loved and accepted will help her most. For your child: 1. Provide a routine, structure and safety. Sticking to the schedule is very important. 2. Reward good behaviour. 3. Take the support of the whole family to make her feel comfortably at home. You may have to rearrange furniture according to her needs. 4.look for nonverbal cues to connect with her. Do not force her to make eye contact Rather pay attention to the sounds and expressions she likes or dislikes. Be observant about her expressions and gestures when she indicates hunger etc. 5. Play is an essential thing. She has to have fun so find out ways to have activities that would be fun, educational or therapeutic. 6. Children with autism are hypersensitive to light, sound, touch, taste and smell. Find out what stresses your child or what clams her. 7. Build on her interest - art / music 8.she will throw tantrums. Please be very very patient with her. Tantrum is her way of communicating frustration and getting your attention. 9. Professional therapy is needed. Observe their classes and reinforce the activities at home. Certain activities like joining dots, tapping the ball, stringing beads are very helpful. 10. Become part of a group of parents with autistic children so that you may get more ideas and support. 11. Do not hesitate to introduce your child to others and please mention that has autism. This is one way that you have accepted her. Do not attempt to hide. All the best and do keep us posted.
