Answer:
ideally a baby can be breastfed as long as you can and minimum for 2 years. However if you wish to wean off, then keep the baby well fed through other milk and complementary solid feeds. You can also discourage the child by, using bitter edible things like neem/karela juice. It will take some before the baby is completely weaned off. Also ask any other family member/husband to put the baby to sleep. Milk should be restricted to 500-550 ml maximum in a day, so that the child doesn't fill the stomach with milk only. Keep enough gap between his feeds, be it solid or milk to ensure that child is hungry. From one year of age you should start with three meal pattern, i.e. breakfast, lunch and dinner along with two snacks. Introduce one new food at a time, let the child accept it and gets used to it for few days. Introduce another new food only after a week. Do not introduce new foods back to back, it may confuse the child and would lower his acceptance. Try and keep the consistency thin to semi solid, depending on child's preference and swallowing/chewing capacity. You can give porridge of suji, sagi, dalia, rice flakes, ragi etc. Kheer of apple, rice etc. halwa of suji, atta, pumpkin, gajar, sweet potato etc. Khichri, upma, soft scrambled egg yolk, soups, mashed veggies, chapatti, rice, fruits etc. To help in his milk intake You can use some attractive cup/glass for milk. Try giving milk when the child is hungry. You may flavour the milk with natural flavourings like elaichi powder, kesar, dates syrup etc. You may give in the form of fruit shakes like mango/banana/cheeku/apple shake. You may even try giving milk in the form of porridges/kheer/custards
