You can read stories from the time they are born. He will not respond now. But he will enjoy listening to your voice. Next month he will associate your voice with you. Then he will enjoy your tone. You can use the same story for months. Every night that make it a ritual. Show the book and point to pictures. Once he is 11 months old he will recognise the story better and will be able to point out by the time he is 12 months old.
Babbling will begin between 9-12 months depending on the baby. Talk a lot; son a lot to motivate him to talk.
