My son want a pet like dog. we both parent are working. How can i understand him that it is not possible right now to have a pet at home.education Corner
Yes children love pets. Some children are strongly attracted while for some it is a passing fancy. You could encourage him to fed a stray dog regularly. Once the dog is familiar have it vaccinated. A stray dog is a tough breed and does not require maintenance like pedigree dogs. Also you do not need to have it inside your home. They are happy to wander and come to your house for mealtimes. Allow your son to give the meals. See if he is passionate as he means. You could buy some more time. If it is a temporary phase it will wear off Another alternative is to borrow a pup from a shelter and make him take care for a week or month. Often children want pets but are not willing to take care. So when they experience reality they back off. If you cannot do either of the above then take him out on weekends to a dog shelter like Blue cross and allow him to spend a couple of hours there. You do not need to feel bad about saying a No. sit down with him and have a proper conversation explaining the reality.
