Cold & Cough - Seasonal change, pollution or Corona
Dec 10, 2021, 2:30 pm - 3:30 pm
Season Change may be accompanied by chills, cough, sore throat, blocked or runny nose, headache, body ache, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, and/or diarrhoea – s/ he is under a flu attack.
Boost your child's natural immunity
• Eating healthy foods that are rich in protein, vitamin C and zinc (five or more servings of fruits and vegetables a day takes care of this)
• 8-9 hours of daily sleep
• Drinking plenty of fluids such as vegetable juices and soups
• Daily bout of physical activity
Keep all this going for you and your child – and all of you will stay strong during season change!
Frequent handwashing
Hand washing provides easy protection. Inculcate the habit in your child to wash hands when back home from school, mall, day-care center or anywhere else.
Stop the spread of germs
Keep cleaning and disinfecting surfaces and objects that may be contaminated can help slow the spread of cold and flu.
Take extra precautions
Equip your child with tissues so s/he coughs or sneezes into the tissue — and not into the hands. Stay home when you are sick to help prevent spreading your illness to others.

Hello Doctor! My 4 year old son is not comfortable in wearing a mask while he goes out to play. But since it's an essential COVID Appropriate Behaviour, also due to pollution I don't allow him to go downstairs to play without a mask. But after a while I see the mask below his nose or on neck but not where it should be. How can I keep him safe from both the potential threats ? Looking forward to your valuable suggestions.

Namaskar Madam! All throughout our childhood our immune system became stronger by playing in mud, sand and with pebbles. That's why people our generation don't catch cold, cough and other infections soon. However, our children didn't get the privelege of going out to play in sand and mud. Even if they do once in a while , they fall ill. My daughter is really sensitive to these infections. She falls sick every now and then especially with frequent cold- cough and stomachache episodes. How can I keep her away from these infections and frequent episodes of cold and cough? She is 5 years old. Kindly advise.

I have a 5 years old son. He was corona positive last year and fell really ill. He complains of bodyaches, chills, headache often. Can this new variant Omicron, cause him breakthrough infection? How do I find out if his body has made enough antibodies to fight out the infection again? What precautions should I start taking, so that he is protected against this new variant?

Hello Doctor! Now that we hear that the third wave is projected to hit India anytime soon, how can we keep our children safe as they are still not vaccinated? My two children aged 5years and 3 years respectively have low Vitamin D level due to not being able to go out to play regularly. Also they are picky eaters and do not eat vegetables and non-veg food items. Please share some tips to improve their Vit D levels as well as their immunity levels. Thanks in advance!
