How to moderate screen time for your child during the Pandemic

May 21, 2021, 2:30 pm - 3:35 pm

Screen addiction is becoming more and more common these days. It is important to moderate the screen time for a child. You can start with following some rules at home. Few things that you can do include:

Make sure your child does not wake up to the gadget as the first thing in the morning. Also, meal time is gadget-free time. If your child wants to use the gadget whenever they have some time on their hands, it means your child is over using the gadget. Make a rule that mealtime is a gadget-free zone.  This should be the time when the entire family eats together as it also builds a connecting time for the family who are busy with their own things throughout the day. Keep evening for play time in the outdoors. There should be no screen for 1 hour before sleep time. It also helps to pre-agree on the duration of  screen time for one stretch.

You may have to put in some checks and balances for screen time at a stretch.

Hello Ma'am ! My girl is 11 years old . She just gets frustrated so easily when I take phone away from her . I had to give it to her to attend her online classes since laptop volume has some issues but now she continues to watch YouTube videos on it all day long and ignore our calls to take bath or have food on time . Taking away phone option is just not working well with her. What can be done to regulate her usage of mobile? Kindly give some suggestions.

My son is 9 years old and I am pregnant with my second child. Due to some health complications I haven't been able to spend much time with him. So somehow he has got addicted to gadgets. He is on his laptop even till 2-3 am at night. Now when I try to spend time with him, he doens't want to come and talk to me .By what ways can I keep him away from gadgets and strengthen our bond . As I am sure with second child, spending time with him would still remain an issue.

My son is 4 years old . I kept him away from screen until he was 3 years old . But now since all the household chores have come on me, I am not able to give him much time. so he spends time with his 10 year old brother who shows him videos , cartoons on ipad to keep him occupied so that he doesnt bother him. I can notice that my younger one is getting used to ipad now and doens't have food without it. Will it have an impact on him if he watches screen for 5-6 hours or even more. if yes, how will it affect him and what can be done to keep him productive during the day?
