Mar 24, 2022, 6:00 pm - 6:57 pm

Depression is a commonly used term. When one is in a low mood or very upset or gloomy then they say they are ‘depressed'. All of us experience happy moments and sad moments. It is normal to be sad about something- an event or a situation. One could have failed in a test; a child lost his wallet and is sad about it; a girl who has been rejected by a boy is sad. There are many such examples. Here it is important to note that we are sad about something.

Whereas depression is when we are sad – just sad. Our lives may be all normal but we are sad; we have this feeling of sinking, hopelessness, worthlessness and we are unable to experience happiness or get excited or enthusiastic. There is no trigger for being sad when we are depressed. Sadness is just one symptom of depression. It is combined with several other factors affecting us in the long term.

What Are The Symptoms Of Depression In Teens?

The symptoms of depression in children and adults do vary. An individual needs treatment if the feeling of terrible sadness stays on for a minimum two weeks combined with any of these 5 symptoms.

My girl who has recently turned 14 years old is not behaving in a usual manner. She prefers to stay aloof in her room. Talks really less . Also she is occupied on her phone. On being asked if she is chatting with a boy she says she hates boys and has friends who are girls. Is this something to worry about? Is this hatred for boys normal? Is this affinity towards girls okay?is this an age related change or it has got something to do with her sexuality? Please guide.. I am really disturbed.

Hello Ma'am ! I have two children aged 14 and 11 years old respectively. They do not want to study or even go out with us anywhere. All they want to do is sit at home and be on their gadgets. They both are fond of Marvel movies and they keep watching those till late night. They prefer eating junk food all the time and do not listen to us anymore. One being scolded they support each other. My husband is mostly occupied in his office work. How can I handle them both alone?

Hello ma'am... I have two daughters aged 11 yrs and 5 yrs respectively... My elder daughter has become very dependent on me. She still doesn't want to make her own reading as I have already taught her everything by hand. Leaving her at my sister's house, (since she had final exam) I went out to give my exam for 15days 2 years ago.. Even since then, she had a fear while sleeping. Plz mom you will stay awake, you will not sleep until I fall asleep. A trauma works in her in the matter of her father. Her father loves her so much. But she couldn't understand that. Dad or I, no matter what we say ,keep crying. She is terrified of her father. I don't know why she afraid of him too much ... And now that her sister has arrived, she thinks her mother is moving away from her. Can I get her out of this trauma? plz suggest
