Hi Deepika, As per WHO Recommendations babies should be exclusively breast fed for 6 months, which means that solids should not be given as main feed before 6 months. However, some babies give indications that they are ready for solid feeds before 6 months. If you notice that your baby watches you very closely, when you are eating and mimics your behavior or tries to reach and grab for food then you can try offering a very small amount of pureed food on spoon or on your clean finger. If your baby opens mouth widely and tries to swallow it and not throws it out, then it means baby is ready for solid feeds. The first foods for your baby should be Rice cereal, if baby takes it well then gradually you can introduce baby to other grains like ragi.. Remember, solid feeds at this age, should not replace Breast milk feeds or other milk feeds and milk should still continue to be the main food for your baby. 2018-09-05 15:02:09

Hi Hima, Every dry fruit has some unique nutritional and health benefits. In general, all dry fruits are packed with proteins, healthy fats, vitamins and minerals, plus are good sources of fiber. Hence you can have variety of them. Eat in moderation, eat in between meals when you are hungry. A handful of mixed nuts can be good enough. You can include nuts like almonds, pistachio, cashewnut, peanuts and walnuts. 2018-09-05 15:06:40

Hi Trinayani, The amount of milk secreted increases gradually in the first few days after delivery, reaching the peak during the second month, at which level it is maintained until about 6 months of age. In the first 6 months on an average , a mother produces about 750ml/day which reduces to 600ml/day from 6 months onwards. During breast feeding you need extra calories and nutrients, to secrete adequate quantity/ quality of milk and to safe guard your own health. Super foods for you during this period are Water, Lentils and beans(Dals, rajma, channa etc..), Egg, Nuts and seeds, dairy (Milk, dahi , chese and paneer) and of course green leafy veggies and other colored fruits and veggies. To meet the increased needs, take5-6 small meals in a day, drink lot of water plus make sure you take at least 2-3 cups of milk in a day. There are some lactogenic foods which are believed to increase milk supply. These foods are Oats, ragi, spinach, fenugreek seeds, edible gum, nuts, like, Almonds, Til, coconut, Gardencress seeds and Spices & Herbs Ajwain, Saunf. Include them in your diet. Lastly remain calm and happy and enjoy this beautiful period 2018-09-05 15:14:18

Hi Anvita, If you feel dizzy and weak, please consult your doctor and get yourself examined. Eating carbohydrate rich snack in the form of whole wheat toast/rusk will avoid dizziness. Regarding cold / cough, take warm liquids like soups, porridge or milk. Adding haldi and honey to warm milk will help in soothing your throat. Taking small frequent meals will ensure good supply of energy to the brain and this can control dizziness but we again advice that you must visit your doctor 2018-09-05 15:24:08

Hi Parul, WALNUTS are packed with Omega 3 fats or the essential fatty acids. Omega-3 fats are essential to health and are necessary for healthy fetal growth and development. If you can tolerate walnuts well, then you can easily take about 5-6 in day.You can take handful of mixed nuts in a day, like, almonds, pista, cashew and peanuts. This way you will get nutritional benefits from other nuts as well. 2018-09-05 15:29:15

Hi Shreya, Yes you can continue with it. Soaking almonds, helps to remove phytic acid which inhibits the absorption of certain minerals like calcium.Almonds contain a balanced amount of polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats, which are the healthy fats. In addition, they are packed with proteins and are also a great source of Calcium and Vitamin E. Hence eating handful of almonds in a day is a great way of meeting your increased needs of some vital nutrients during pregnancy. 2018-09-05 15:33:23

Hi Surabhi, Yes you are right Bajra is a good source of Iron in particular. but if she is not liking it then you can try giving other Iron rich foods like greens, nuts, egg, meat and beans like rajma, lobhia, etc. Plus if you want to include bajra, then mix it with whole wheat flour, add some veggies and give parathas or you can mix it with dal flour like moong dal and make chilas . Cut them into fancy shapes and sizes with a biscuit cutter so that they look interesting and appealing to eyes 2018-09-05 15:38:31

Hi Priya, Giving excess of any food will reduce the appetite for other foods plus it can also result in baby slowly disliking that particular food. Hence , it is advised that give it in moderation, mix it with other foods like boiled channa or rajma and give it as a salad, or you can add some veggies and paneer pieces and give it as a chaat or mix with cooked oats and prepare bhel etc. So try giving it in different ways plus mix it with other foods so that your baby gets health benefits of other foods as well. 2018-09-05 15:42:06

Hi Rashi, All colored fruits and veggies are great Immunity boosters.Carrots, green beans, sweet potatoes, yellow pumpkin, greens, oranges, all contain immunity-boosting phytonutrients in the form of vitamin C and carotenoids, which help baby to fight germ and infection. Including egg and meat and beans, like rajma, soybean, channa is another way of boosting immunity. Also including Curd or probiotic rich yogurt available in market will keep gut health strong plus Health Drink baby’s immunity. Make sure that baby is getting enough of healthy fats like omega 3, which are available from foods like, flax seeds, powdered nuts like walnuts. Deficiency of Vitamin D can also weaken immune system. Lastly check your baby's iron levels as low iron levels can also trigger infection and in case of deficiency baby should be put under appropriate supplementation. In that case you have to consult your doctor. 2018-09-05 15:47:10
