my son aged 4.5 yrs, weighing 19kgs was treated with adenoids and tonsills surgery an year back. Though his snoring has ended, he still has running nose 24x7x12 months. I can feel the congestion in his chest when he breathes. His ears started paining and we had to give him antibiotics. whats the long term and permanent solution to this?

hi jasmine, he likely has an allergic rhinitis that is causing symptoms all year round.The allergy may be due to pollen/dust/pollution. would require anti allergic preventer medication and ideally assessment by a allergy specialist. I'm assuming ENT conditions like polyp and deviated septum would have been rued out. It will improve as he grows though the allergic tendency stays.

If there is no fever, may well be allergic in nature due to seasonal pollen/pollution. As she is otherwise very well, not an acute worry. you could see a paediatrician for using a preventer anti allergic like montelucast.

hi, most colds are viral so antibiotics not very useful. If feeding and sleeping is unaffected by cold, he would not necessarily need medication. continue to give warm , increased fluids.

2. he may need an anti allergic medication like montelucast - consult your doctor for it
3. If it is a wet sounding cough, take a decongestant cough syrup

Asthalin syrup is for wheezy coughs or wheeze. Cold syrups may be anti allergics or decongestants or a mixture of several medicines. They may be give together but is advisable to stick to the prescription and not self medicate.

This may be due to an allergic tendency (most common) or/and associated with nasal bone deviations/polyp etc. If it causes mouth breathing or is quite significant, please get an ENT assessment done.

The seasonal cough and congestion can be difficult to shake off and tends to linger.If mild, give warm water, soups, nasal saline drops and honer /ginger /warm water drinks. If severe, will need review again by his doctor.

hi, It is due to some blockage of the air passage...either by blocked nose, enlarged tonsils or adenoids.

My son is 5 years old. he doesn't have any severe congestion but he is always having cold. Main problem is that he has a lot of mucus in his nostrils and lot of phlegm also always. hi, it would still be useful to get him assessed by an ENT or paediatric specialist to uncover the cause- allergic or adenoid hypertrophy or both or any other problem..given that it is affecting his speech also. I dont know ayurveda. Warm drinks, soups, gargles should help too.

It is usual to get cold cough frequent episodes when they start playschool. make sure he eats well and has a nutritious diet to Health Drink his immunity. Give more of soup like warm drinks - chicken/vegetable etc.

hi, his episodes may be infections or allergic. infections usually have fever and the prevention would be to Health Drink his own immunity either naturally via diet or supplements of vitamin d iron as needed. Montelucast is an antiallergic an d I would suggest you give it a fair trial before dismissing it. An allergy test may help if that looks more likely - can be tested for pet dander etc also.

1. given the trigger seems same each time, avoid cold as much as possible. Some children do display extreme sensitivity to temperature.
2. for increasing immunity, give food s rich in proteins - eggs, beans, meat and vitamin C - citrus fruits.

yes it may by causing congestion that predisposes to infection.
Use nasal drops to decongest nose at night, steam inhalation and warm drinks should help. If snores even when no cold, would be useful to see ENT.

Some times there may be blood with phlegm or vomit if the coughing/vomiting is violent. .so not unusual but if it persists , will need to be reviewed again by your doctor. I'm assuming there are no bleeding issues in the baby/family otherwise.

No, dont continue the medication for longer than prescribed. If overall improving, can wait and watch for a few days. use nasal saline drops still and sleep with head end raised.

Give more of warm fluids like soup etc and use a nasal spray to decongest the nose. If not already done, please see an ENT specialist also . He may also benefit from preventer anti allergic medications.
