Hi Puja, Yes you can take but please consult with your doctor about the type, dosage and duration of taking these supplements. Omega 3 fats are group of Essential fatty acids that cannot be synthesized by our body and needs to be taken through diet. With each pregnancy, mother's own store of Omega 3 gets depleted , hence she needs to take it after pregnancy and more so if she is breast feeding. If you are breastfeeding then Omega 3 in your milk is great for baby's visual and cognitive development. Hence, it is very important to take it as supplement. Omega 3 also helps to improve mood and combat depression which is particularly seen post pregnancy. Regarding B vitamin, supplements of this will Health Drink your energy levels, keep you active and alert and lastly comes Protein power. Well, for this I will not recommend Protein supplements as our Indian dietaries, can easily meet protein needs even if its mainly vegetarian. Regular intake of dal, beans, yogurt, milk, nuts and seeds plus whole wheat, and other grains can help you to meet your increased protein needs. Excess intake can result in excess of uric acid in the body, which can cause harm to kidneys in the longer run. Hence avoid taking that. Again, any supplement that you start with, please consult your doctor. 2018-11-12 15:12:34

Hi mallu, I think you are asking about Fenugreek seeds. Some of the research has indicated that Fenugreek seeds can dilate the uterine wall and can induce labor. Hence avoid taking it. But if you have gestational diabetes then it may help but take it after 37th week of pregnancy and not before. Always consult your doctor. During breastfeeding time, Fenugreek seeds work as galactagogues that is, they help to increase milk supply, hence it will be worthwhile taking it after delivery. 2018-11-12 15:16:11

Hi Priyamit, at this age babies are introduced to new foods. So best is to give only 1-2 solid feeds and only 1-2 tablespoon in each feed. Offer 5-6 milk feeds (150-175ml per feed) Continue with breast milk, do not stop or reduce it. As baby grows older you can give more amounts in each solid feed. Start with single foods, like pureed apple or rice cereal and when baby is well adjusted to it, you can offer other foods like, pureed carrot, sweet potato and mashed banana. Slowly you can move to ragi porridge, rava kheer, mashed dal, etc. Make sure you do not add spices or sugar to any of these foods. Also at this age, milk still remains the main feed hence do not reduce or replace with milk feeds. Regarding repeated attacks of cough/ cold then it means that baby's immune system is weak. Firstly get your baby's VitD and Iron levels tested, in case of deficiency, discuss with your doctor on starting appropriate supplements, next if baby has been on antibiotics then check with your doctor on starting with appropriate Probiotic supplements 2018-11-12 15:31:11

Hi Paavani, As per WHO Recommendations babies should be exclusively breast fed for 6 months, which means that solids should not be given as main feed before 6 months. However, some babies give indications that they are ready for solid feeds before 6 months. If you notice that your baby watches you very closely, when you are eating and mimics your behavior or tries to reach and grab for food then you can try offering a very small amount of pureed food on spoon or on your clean finger. If your baby opens mouth widely and tries to swallow it and not throws it out, then it means baby is ready for solid feeds. At this age if you start with solid food, make sure that you maintain complete hygiene while preparing or offering new food, food offered should be cooked and in pureed form and offer very little only for making baby taste and try new food. Remember, solid feeds at this age, should not replace Breast milk feeds or other milk feeds and it should still continue to be the main food for your baby. Regarding the foods to start with, start with single foods first like, Rice cereal, apple puree and offer only 1-2 tsp and that too 1-2 times in a day. 2018-11-12 15:32:41

Hi Trupti, At this age offer 3-4 small solid feeds(1/2 cup in each feed) and 3-4 milk feeds. Offer small amounts and do not force feed. Try to serve food in more attractive way, offer more of finger foods, encourage self feeding and offer variety. Finger Foods, like, Small squares of Bread or toast, Slices of cooked veggies like, carrot, sweet potatoes, white potatoes or Broccoli, Slices of soft fruits like, Banana, pear, peaches or slightly cooked apples rolled in cereals or Piece of Cheese/paneer. Include foods like, Infant cereals, oats/ragi porridge, rava/ragi kheer, fruit custard, khichadi, dal-rice, Upma, idli, soft dosa, yogurt, cheese, paneer, pureed cooked meat, beans, and cooked egg yolk. Start with cooked egg yolk first and let baby get adjusted to it then after a month you can give full egg but that too in fully cooked form 2018-11-12 15:34:53

Hi Shilpa, I do not agree that if baby is not gaining weight healthily then milk feeds should be replaced with solid feeds. In fact breast milk helps in healthy weight gain plus boosts baby's immunity. Any ways if you have started with solid feeds then, remember, solid feeds at this age, should not replace Breast milk feeds or other milk feeds and milk should still continue to be the main food for your baby. Regarding the foods to start with, start with single foods first like, Rice cereal, apple puree and offer only 1-2 tsp and that too 1-2 times in a day. Fruits and veggies like banana, apple, pear, sweet potato, carrot and rice cereal will all help in healthy weight gain and can be easily included in the diet. But do not give in excess amounts, do not add sugar/honey or fat/oil to any of baby's food. Lastly if baby is active, alert, passing normal urine and stools and not falling sick so often plus taking all feeds well, then all this indicates that baby is doing fine. So do not worry. 2018-11-12 15:41:02

hi my baby never latched to my breast inspite of trying a lot,so for about 4 months i pumped and gave h about 2-3 ounces a breastmilk in a day and rest he was fed nan pro(formala milk). He is 7.5 months old now and is growing at good pace.i started givingg him pureed fruits and cocunut water from 4months as i had no breastmilk supply. And gradualy started semi solids like ragi &aata halva with little organic gur(jaggery) and moong daal and rice pureed but thick consistency. What more can i feed him for iron and other vital nutrients as i would want to discontinue nan pro from the next month as its too costly and start cow milk?

Hi Vismita, Firstly , you have been feeding your baby a variety of home-made healthy foods, like ragi, whole wheat, fruits, etc which is great. I must congratulate you on this. Regarding starting with Cow's milk then as per AAP, Starting Cow's milk before 1 year may result in allergic reaction and Amy cause Iron deficiency in babies, hence wait till baby is 1 year before you start with packet milk,. From 8 months onwards, you can give paneer/ dahi, all coloured fruits and veggies, cooked pureed dals, beans, like rajma, channa and also start with cooked egg yolk. All this will help to give the necessary nutrients to your baby. Do not reduce or replace milk feeds with solid feeds, at this age baby should be taking atlas 4-5 milk feeds and 2-3 solid feeds of 1/2-1/2C in each feed. 2018-11-12 15:46:37

Hi Priya, When baby is not able to digest Lactose or milk sugar it is Milk intolerance and its same as Lactose Intolerance. Symptoms of lactose intolerance in babies are, Diarrhea, Bloated stomach, Spitting up, eczema , Irritability, crying, or other colic symptoms or Failure to gain weight. Very few babies have Milk allergy or even Milk intolerance. But if baby shows any symptoms of either milk allergy or milk intolerance, it is better to consult your doctor, who will do certain tests to identify the exact problem. However, If baby has been diagnosed with Milk Allergy then do not worry, as many babies outgrow it by 1 year or maximum by 3 years of age. Regarding food, If baby is allergic to milk then baby cannot be given yogurt or cheese. Instead from 9 months you can include other protein foods like, chicken, meat or egg yolk, dals, beans etc.Include grains like ragi, oats, daliya.. Also, add 1-2 tsp of olive oil or butter/ghee in baby’s diet so as to ensure good fat intake. Also, avoid other types of milk like goat, sheep or soy milk. Lastly read all the ingredients on baby foods as many foods, like, breads, biscuits or cereals contain milk. 2018-11-12 15:50:37

Hi Msham, If you feel your baby is not gaining weight healthily, is not taking feeds then it is better to check with your doctor who after tests and assessments will decide which supplements your baby needs. Supplements should always be given with doctors advice and should be given only if baby has been diagnosed with deficiency. Regarding brain growth then, Omega 3 fats, B vitamins, proteins, Iron, Zinc etc. all are needed. Hence please check with your doctor on appropriate supplements 2018-11-12 15:55:15

Hi Manasa, If baby has been on new type of Formula then it Amy cause soft motions. As long as baby is not having liquids motions, not having fever, passing normal urine and is taking feeds nicely then not to worry. Regarding foods , you are giving him variety, just include, dahi, paneer, ragi, oats and from 9 months, pureed dals, beans etc. 2018-11-12 15:58:31

Regarding foods, offer 1-2 solid feeds only at this age and that too just 2-3 tsp in every feed. Do not offer more and do not replace solid feeds with milk feeds. 2018-11-12 16:01:01
