Hi Priyamit, since the baby is now six months, you should introduce complementary foods now. Milk alone can not fulfill your baby'nutritional needs. 2018-12-12 11:02:33

Puja Sharma Vasisht
At 6 months you can give ragi porridge, rice kheer, suji kheer or phirni etc. You can gradually start with mashed banana, boiled potatoes, dal water also. 2018-12-12 11:03:20

Hi Ranu, exclusive breast feeding is recommended till 6 months. You should also take care of your own diet for proper lactation. 2018-12-12 11:10:12
message user image
Puja Sharma Vasisht
Still if the breastmilk is insufficient, only then you may introduce a top feed. Since the baby is unwell, she is not taking formula. Continue to give your feed only and do take advice of your paediatrician for her cold and cough. 2018-12-12 11:11:44

Hi Asha, try including his favourite healthy options in meals. Try & make regular food interesting like chapatti veggies as Kathi roll or vegetables, cheese/shredded chicken spread over roti with ketchup. Give variety your child in foods. Encourage the child to indulge in more outdoor games and activities to increase appetite. 2018-12-12 11:17:35

hello madam, what factors define brain and hieght growth. Is there any food items i can give to my 4 years daughter to increase her memory and height.

Hi Arika, for weight and height we have standards according to the age. Similarly, children have certain cognitive milestones, which are reached by certain age. 2018-12-12 11:48:19
message user image
Puja Sharma Vasisht
These you can get checked by the paediatrician. Generally if the child is able to cope with basic school studies, it means the cognitive growth is going fine. 2018-12-12 11:49:36

You need to limit her milk feeds and alternate them with solids. Start with a spoon or so and gradually increase the amounts of feed according to her acceptance. Keep a gap of minimum 2 hours between her milk feed and solid feed, so that she is hungry and accepts it. Introduce only one food at a time, let her have it for 3-4 days and then introduce another food. Initially keep the consistency pouring/flowing and then thicken it according to her acceptance. Keep seasonings very mild, as babies don't generally like very strong flavours. 2018-12-12 11:56:52

Hi Upma, since iron has a role in brain maturation, studies indicate it might have a role in ADHD. Include green leafy vegetables, beans, legumes, mutton, liver, bajram dalia, citrus fruits, black channa in your child's diet for iron. 2018-12-12 12:22:53

Present food in an attractive way (add different coloured vegetables, cut/cook in different fun shapes, etc. ) Try to cook the foods he dislikes in different ways to make them interesting to him (such as adding new flavours like with cheese or a different sauce) Try changing texture of the food he doesn’t fancy Offer finger foods like boiled carrot sticks once in a day, lay an attractive platter for him and allow him to eat on his own. Let him mess around if he does. Kids sometimes like to be in control. Eat the same foods (that he dislikes) with him. Look interested and praise the food. Kids like to follow their parents. If he still refuses the same foods, avoid offering them to him for a few days, then try again by cooking in a different way. 2018-12-12 12:24:07

Hi Puja, the weight seems fine for her age but the child should be eating vegetables. If the child like puris, give her spinach, beets, acrrot, pumpkin or any other vegetable added to the puri dough. 2018-12-12 12:25:52

Again aloo rice can be cooked with other vegetables too and the rice itself can be cooked in vegetable soup. 2018-12-12 12:26:28

Make the child eat with family to encourage her to eat all types of foods. 2018-12-12 12:26:55

HI Meghrai, too much of sweets especially refined sugars are not recommended. They would lead to dental caries, nutrition imbalance and obesity in the child. 2018-12-12 12:18:47

Hi Anita, in fever the appetite is low, so it is natural for baby to eat less. You can continue to breastfeed and offer liquids and semi solids like soup, dal, khichri, upma etc. For her fever, please consult a doctor. 2018-12-12 12:29:36

Hi Shravani, give vegetable soup, chicken/mutton soup, dalia/rice khichri, thin dal soup, fruits like papaya, chickoo. Do consult your doctor for suitable supplements to aid in speedy recovery. Once the child is better, bring her to normal family diet avoiding fatty, fried foods. 2018-12-12 12:31:59
