H Nanina, you can feed him at a gap of two to three hours or whenever he demands. This would make sure that the baby is hungry enough to accept your feed. 2018-07-31 11:21:40

Hi Ashwini, You need to wait till the baby completes six months and then you may start with strained vegetable soup including green leafy vegetables , fresh fruit juice. At 6 months you can give ragi porridge, rice kheer, suji kheer or phirni etc. You can gradually start with mashed banana, boiled potatoes, dal water also. Boiled water can be given especially after each solid feed. Starting with a spoon or two you may gradually increase the amount to 120-250 ml in a day. Keep the seasonings mild, keep the consistency flowing initially. You may give three solid feeds maximum, in a day. 2018-07-31 11:24:43

Hi Preety, mother's milk is best for baby's growth and immunity. You should keep trying to give your feed to the baby. However, in the circumstances, when you are unable to feed the baby, Formula can be next option. 2018-07-31 11:27:53

Hi Parveen, if the stools are normal then the frequency does not matter and especially it does not have an effect on your child's weight. The weight and height of your baby is not that low 2018-07-31 11:29:17

Hi Nasima, these sweets are nothing but junk food as they are high in sugar calories and low in nutrition. Restrict the intake of sweets to minimum, for once a week/ fortnight. Don't keep any sweets in the house, so that the child is not tempted. Be firm in saying no, when child asks for sweets. Fix meal times for the child, that is with family meal timings. Don't let him eat in between. Give him healthy options, which should be what the family is eating. Try including his favourite healthy options for the meals. You can make snacks healthier by using whole grain flour, vegetables & fruits. Try & make regular food interesting like chapatti veggies as Kathi roll or vegetables, cheese/shredded chicken spread over roti with ketchup. Give variety your child in foods. Don't even let others offer him chocolates/sweets. It would take some time & patience, to make the child understand. 2018-07-31 11:33:29

The problem seems to be disinterest in food. Milk should be restricted to 400-500 ml maximum in a day, so that the child doesn't fill the stomach with milk only. Make eating joyful and pleasant experience for him. Make him sit with family to have meals. Keep appropriate gap, to ensure hunger of least 3-4 hours between his meals. Allocate fixed time for his meals. That is the child should finish his main meals in 20-25 minutes and for snacks give 10-15 minutes to finish. If the child takes longer than that remove his plate. Over a period of time the child would start finishing his meals on time. Start with some of his favourite food (whatever he likes) and try and serve in an attractive manner. Use different coloured foods. You may weave a story around food item, like a round tomato as a ball or a make a stool of 2-3 biscuits and something is sitting and falling from it. You can even make him have his meals with other children of same age group, be it neighbours, friends or cousins once in a while. Children follow other children. It would take some time before he accepts food normally. Try including the favourite healthy options for the meals. You can make snacks healthier by using whole grain flour, vegetables & fruits. Try & make regular food interesting like chapatti veggies as Kathi roll or vegetables, cheese/shredded chicken spread over roti with ketchup. Give variety your child in foods. Children have Food Neophobia which is a fear of new foods, which leads to a reluctance to try new foods. However, all kids grow out of it. Keep a gap of atleast 2-3 hours between each meal, so that your child is hungry enough to eat. Fix the meal times and serve food at those times only and not in between. Restrict the amount of milk to 500-550 ml in a day, so that the child would be hungry for other foods too. Serve a very small portion of a new food earlier in the day, when your little one is most energetic and the least aggressive. If you'd like your child to eat a particular food, then you should eat too. If your child isn't hungry, don't force a meal. Kids generally regulate their appetites by eating when hungry, so don’t fret. Be creative and serve a variety of brightly colored foods and cut foods into various shapes.. Make positive comments about the food you are eating, such as "this is yummy!", your toddler may be more willing to try them. Praise your toddler when she eats well, because toddlers respond positively to praise. Always serve small portions. Toddlers can be overwhelmed by big platefuls and lose their appetite. Keep trying. It’s a given fact that it may take 10 or more exposures to new foods before a child accepts them 2018-07-31 11:54:52

Use whole milk and its products like curd, paneer, cheese, buttermilk etc. You may give these as fruit shakes/ fruit lassi. Cheese or paneer can be cut into small bite sized cubes, so that they can use their fingers to eat these. Alternatively paneer/cheese can be added to their roti/sandwich/dosa/uttapam etc. Increase intake of dals/legumes, eggs (hard boiled cut into small bite sized pieces or omlette etc.) poultry/fish (curry, snacks, cutlets, tikka, in rice or in soup). Give more of fruits like mango, banana, cheeku, litchi, grapes, dates. These may be added to their milkshakes as well. Give more of potato, sweet potato, colocassia, yam besides other vegetables. You may add these to their roti/sandwich. Nuts like walnuts, almonds, peanuts and dried fruits like raisins, currants, dried apricots. 2018-07-31 11:55:12

Hi Nagalakshmi, the weight of the baby seems good. There is no absolute weight for the babies below one year of age which is considered healthy. There is a range of weight and generally birth weight of the baby is considered. The baby should be consistently gaining weight. If the baby doubles her birth weight by 5 months and triples by one year, it means the weight gain is good. 2018-07-31 11:58:28

the problem seems to be disinterest in food. Milk should be restricted to 400-500 ml maximum in a day, so that the child doesn't fill the stomach with milk only. Make eating joyful and pleasant experience for her. Make her sit with family to have meals. Keep appropriate gap, to ensure hunger of least 3-4 hours between her meals. Allocate fixed time for her meals. That is the child should finish her main meals in 20-25 minutes and for snacks give 10-15 minutes to finish. If the child takes longer than that remove her plate. Over a period of time the child would start finishing her meals on time. Start with some of her favourite food (whatever she likes) and try and serve in an attractive manner. Use different coloured foods. You may weave a story around food item, like a round tomato as a ball or a make a stool of 2-3 biscuits and something is sitting and falling from it. You can even make her have her meals with other children of same age group, be it neighbours, friends or cousins once in a while. Children follow other children. It would take some time before she accepts food normally. Encourage the child to indulge in more outdoor games and activities to increase appetite. 2018-07-31 12:11:01

Nutrition wise you should focus on giving organ meats, eggs, fish (especially fatty fish like salmon, herring, trout), butter, ghee etc. Do take advice of your paediatrician on giving supplements of vitamin D and cod liver oil (high intake may give toxicity). 2018-07-31 12:21:02

Hi Money, you may start with strained vegetable soup including green leafy vegetables , fresh fruit juice. 2018-07-31 11:25:48
