Hi Sheela, the weight is not that low. You can give him a high protein and calorie diet to help in healthy weight gain 2018-12-24 11:02:18

Increase intake of dals/legumes, eggs (hard boiled cut into small bite sized pieces or omlette etc.) poultry/fish (curry, snacks, cutlets, tikka, in rice or in soup). Give more of fruits like mango, banana, cheeku, litchi, grapes, dates. These may be added to their milkshakes as well. 2018-12-24 11:02:37

Use whole milk and its products like curd, paneer, cheese, buttermilk etc. You may give these as fruit shakes/ fruit lassi. Cheese or paneer can be cut into small bite sized cubes, so that they can use their fingers to eat these. Alternatively paneer/cheese can be added to their roti/sandwich/dosa/uttapam etc. 2018-12-24 11:04:11

You need to keep the temperature of the room comfortable, dress the baby in loose clothes and feed well every two-three hours. Do take advice of your paediatrician if these don't help. 2018-12-24 11:09:14

Hi Javed, though the height is largely controlled by our genes, giving a high calcium and protein diet, some sports and exercises may help in height gain. 2018-12-24 11:11:25

Hi Bhavya, it is okay if the child is taking other cereals instead of rice. Other cereals like wheat, ragi, oats, any other provide similar calories. However, you can try giving rice in different forms for better acceptance 2018-12-24 11:18:34

Hi Parul, Keep a gap of atleast 2-3 hours between each meal, so that your child is hungry enough to eat. Fix the meal times and serve food at those times only and not in between. Restrict the amount of milk to 500-550 ml in a day, so that the child would be hungry for other foods too. 2018-12-24 11:31:29

Be creative and serve a variety of brightly colored foods and cut foods into various shapes.. Make positive comments about the food you are eating, such as "this is yummy!", your toddler may be more willing to try them. 2018-12-24 11:31:54

Puja Sharma Vasisht
Always serve small portions. Toddlers can be overwhelmed by big platefuls and lose their appetite. Keep trying. It’s a given fact that it may take 10 or more exposures to new foods before a child accepts them 2018-12-24 11:32:17

Hi Banu, the weight gain is going fine. You have to start with few spoons only. Introduce only one food at a time, by replacing one of your feed with solids give it for 3-4 days and only introduce another food. This would help the baby accepting and getting familiar with taste of that particular food. Do not introduce new foods back to back, it may confuse the child and would lower his acceptance. Keep enough gap between her feeds, be it solid or milk to ensure that he is hungry. 2018-12-24 12:00:41
