Hi Kanishka, Iron is a very important mineral which helps in the formation of Hb which then helps to supply oxygen to different parts of body. Fall in Hb levels is an indicator of Iron deficiency. Symptoms of Iron Deficiency in babies are pale skin, tiredness, weakness, poor appetite, and irritability, sore or swollen tongue. Also it may lead to poor immunity and this can cause frequent attacks of infection and illness. But sometimes baby may show no symptoms and still have iron deficiency. If baby has been diagnosed with Iron deficiency then the first line of treatment is to consult your doctor and start with appropriate supplements. In addition to this you have to make your child's diet rich in Iron by including Iron rich foods like, sweet potato, prunes, dates, broccoli, greens like spinach,, greens like spinach, pureed beans, like rajma , soybean and grains like bajra, jowar and ragi. If you cook non-veg at home then egg and meat are also good sources. Try adding vitaminC rich foods along with the meals to increase Iron absorption. Do not worry, with food and supplements, your baby will start recovering quickly. Remember to include home-made foods and avoid sugary, fatty foods at this age as this will reduce baby's appetite for other healthy foods and will take longer for the child to come out of deficiency. 2018-12-05 15:08:38

Hi Shilpi, Babies who are born premature have little weaker immune system as compare to Full term babies. But do not worry, gradually as baby grows the immune system gets stronger . To Health Drink baby's immune system, Good nutrition is essential. It will keep the immune system healthy and strong. Nutritional deficiencies, like, Iron, Vit D, zinc, may be responsible for baby falling sick again and again as it is easier for bacteria or viruses to take hold when these nutrients are missing. Firstly, get your baby fully examined by your doctor to rule out any deficiency. Secondly as far as foods is concerned, include all coloured fruits and veggies like, Carrots, green beans, sweet potatoes, yellow pumpkin, greens, oranges, as they all contain immunity-boosting phytonutrients such as vitamin C and carotenoids, which help baby to fight germ and infection. In addition, if you are eating non-veg then egg, meat can also be included in the diet. Make sure that baby is getting enough of healthy fats like omega 3, which are available from foods like, flax seeds, powdered nuts and fatty fish like salmon. Processed foods, like, sugar, sugar rich drinks and soda can weaken the immune system, by reducing the ability of white blood cell to kill germs, an indicator of immune strength. Avoid giving sugar rich foods and also avoid unhealthy fats like trans fats /hydrogenated oils found in deep fried foods and snacks as these can also predispose a child to frequent infections . Plus Health Drink baby's sleep time and make sure baby goes out and plays a lot as this also helps to strengthen the immune system 2018-12-05 15:19:25

Hi Sandhya, Repeated attacks of infection indicate that child's immune system is weak. To Health Drink child's immune system, child needs healthy home-made diet, good sleep, exercise, plus complete avoidance of processed foods that are rich in sugar and unhealthy fats. In addition complete hygiene , keeping child away from sick people and also from smoke and dust will also keep him well protected. Regarding healthy diet, include all coloured fruits and veggies, beans, egg, meat , nuts, seeds as certain phytonutrients present in these foods will help him to fight infection. About sugar, many studies have indicated that sugar can aggravate the problem in children with hyperactivity. Plus sugar also suppresses the functioning of WBC's the fighter cells of our body. Hence avoid sugar as much as possible and make sure baby gets natural sugar from natural foods like fruits, milk etc. Avoid added sugar in his diet. Also at the same time get your baby's Iron, VitD, Zinc levels tested as deficiency if any one can result in frequent infections and illnesses. Lack of sleep as mentioned in your question is also one of the causes of poor immunity. So try forming a sleeping schedule for the child, Foods like warm milk, banana, peaches, oats cereal, are said to be calming foods and help child to sleep better. Also offer small frequent meals throughout the day and do not give large meals as small meals will give nutrition to the body all the time particularly brain which will keep him calm and relaxed. Lastly try involving him in some sports of his choice; exercise in any form isa stress buster plus immunity booster. Plus not will also keep him more relaxed. Try these measures and do let su know. 2018-12-05 15:34:00

Hi Balraj, During pregnancy and that too at the beginning stages, there are hormonal changes taking place and hence women may experience some discomfort. Itching is one of them, which may be due to dryness of the skin. Please tell her to wash her feet with warm water, apply moisturiser while the skin is still little wet and keep it open to air and not cover it so often. But if these measures do not help or if itching increases please consult your doctor and her examined. Do not worry she will be fine. 2018-12-05 15:38:02

Hi Trinayani, The best part about nature is that creates some special foods during winters which are actually immunity boosting foods. So all coloured fruits and vegetables like spinach, broccoli, radish leaves, carrots, sweet potatoes, prunes, dates, kale, and other greens are all packed with phytonutrients that makes baby's immune system strong. In addition, nuts like walnuts, almonds, cashew which can be enjoyed during winters are also immunity boosting foods, If you take non-veg then foods like eggs, meat chicken are also great during this time. Lastly avoid including foods with excessive sugar or with added sugar as these can weaken the immune system., Snacks like variety of dosas made with ragi, oats, channa or moong dal, bajra/jowar chillas, egg pancakes made with natural fruits, carrot kheer with less sugar, ragi/whole wheat ladies with nuts added and little jaggery added are all great winter treats. 2018-12-05 15:54:16

Hi Ratna, Recurrent attacks of stomach infection means chid's gut is weak. Our body has got some healthy bacteria which helps to keep our digestion strong, But with frequent infections and frequent intake of medications, these healthy bacteria get destroyed and hence digestion gets weakened. So to prevent infection and improve baby's digestion, try including Probiotics in her diet. You can check with your doctor on Probiotic supplements. Food like Kefir, yogurt with added probiotic or home-made dahi are all good sources of probiotic. In addition avoid sugary foods as this can irritate the stomach lining and can further weaken baby's digestion. Avoid spices, like chillies and also fat rich foods as this can aggravate the condition. 2018-12-05 15:59:18

Hi Sarranya, Repeated attacks of infection indicate that child's immune system is weak. If she is exposed to dust, pets and smoke particularly cigarette smoke, it can increase the risk of getting infection. Child put on various antibiotics can also weaken their immune system. Kindly check on all these. To Health Drink her immunity, include coloured fruits and veggies like, Carrots, green beans, sweet potatoes, yellow pumpkin, greens, oranges, all contain immunity-boosting phytonutrients such as vitamin C and carotenoids, which help her to fight germ and infection. Egg, chicken and meat are also rich in immunity boosting nutrients. Plus deficiency of Vitamin D can also weaken immune system. Check your baby's iron levels as low iron levels can also trigger infection and in case of deficiency baby should be put under appropriate supplementation. Lastly excess sugar and presence of unhealthy fats in her diet cam also weaken her immune system. Make sure she gets good sleep and involve her in some sports as exercise itself is a great immunity booster. 2018-12-05 16:04:00

Hi Afra, Frequent attacks of cold means baby's immune system is weak. To Health Drink his immunity, include coloured fruits and veggies, include egg, meat and chicken in his diet plus add nuts, seeds more often. In addition, if baby has been put on medication like antibiotic more often then try checking with your doctor on starting Probiotic supplements. Deficiency of Vitamin D can also weaken immune system. Plus check your baby's iron levels as low iron levels can also trigger infection and in case of deficiency baby should be put under appropriate supplementation. To help him gain weight, include nutrient dense foods like ragi, oats, daliya, egg, meat, nuts and seeds, milk, cheese and paneer.Offer small frequent meals as this helps in healthy weight gain. Lastly avoid foods with added sugar as this will further weaken his immune system. 2018-12-05 16:09:45

Hi Darshana, Growth charts to assess baby's growth are different for boys and girls, hence we need to know baby's gender. Yes you are right if baby is underweight, it means baby is eating less or is getting less nutrients or may be having nutritional deficiencies All this can weaken his/her immune system.Good nutrition is essential to developing and keeping the immune system healthy and strong. Critical nutrients that stimulate a strong immune system include , Vit D, Iron, Zinc, vitamins A, C, E and essential fatty acids. . Processed foods, sugar, and soda can weaken the immune system. These “foods” add nothing in the way of nutrition, and if children fill up on a lot of them, they are not likely to eat healthy foods with essential nutrients. This can lead to a weak immune system. All coloured fruits, veggies , eggs, meat, chicken , nuts and seeds are immunity boosting foods. 2018-12-05 16:14:29

Hi Sameena, Repeated attacks of infection indicate that baby's immune system is weak. If baby is exposed to dust, pets and smoke particularly cigarette smoke, it can increase the risk of getting infection. Babies put on various antibiotics can also weaken their immune system. Kindly check on all these. Make sure that baby is kept away from sick people, also friends or relatives visiting baby should wash hands before picking up the baby.To Health Drink baby's immunity, continue breast feeding and if baby is on Formula then go for the one which has Iron and Healthy fats as these will Health Drink immunity. Breast Milk is one of the best remedy; it boosts baby’s immunity, transfers some of your resistance to the baby, and provides nutrients to fight infection and also to recover from illness. Continue with breast feeding. . For babies, above 10 months of age, offer chicken broth as it works wonder for cold and runny nose. Lastly always feed baby in an upright position and try clean baby's nostrils using saline water so that baby can take feed well and sleep well also. 2018-12-05 16:17:45

Hi Sutandra, At this age your kid should be taking 2-3 cups of milk and 4-5 small meals. Make your kid’s diet rich in healthy carbs, proteins, B vitamins, iron and calcium. Healthy carbs and B vitamins will give him energy Health Drink; include foods like whole grain cereals, oats, daliya, ragi, jowar, bajra, breads, fruits and veggies. Proteins will help to build up his muscles and stamina, plus will satisfy his appetite for long time, so give egg (3-4) in a week, lean meat, dals, and beans, like, rajma, channa etc. Finally milk, yogurt and cheese will give him calcium, proteins and many other nutrients, which are vital for his growth and activity..try adding powdered nuts and seeds like walnuts, sunflower or pumpkin seeds to milk, yogurt or cereals. finally, give him small meals, more of finger foods, but packed with nutrients. Processed foods, sugar, and soda can weaken the immune system. These “foods” add nothing in the way of nutrition, and if children fill up on a lot of them, they are not likely to eat healthy foods with essential nutrients., hence avoid including them. 2018-12-05 16:19:51

Hi Jyotirajaneesh, Sudden attack of diarrhoea can be related to some food present in her diet which has caused illness. If its watery, and smelly diarrhoea then please consult your doctor as it could be related to some underlying infection which should be treated immediately. In diarrhea baby loses water and salts from body, so its important to rehydrate baby, by giving boiled cooled water, and if required you can consult your doctor for suitable ORS which is available at all pharmacies. In addition give small amounts of pureed apple, pureed carrot or mashed banana as this will help to bind the stools. . You can also give cleared vegetable soups, dal water, rice water but avoid juices or sugary drinks as this can aggravate the problem. Remember, feed small amounts, but do not stop feeding. Once baby's appetite is little better try giving soft foods like khichadi, daliya, porridge, rava kheer, etc. 2018-12-05 16:24:50

Hi Pragya, Typhoid can weaken the immune system plus also weaken baby's intestines and thereby weaken his digestion. In addition to this the medications given during this time further weaken the immune system But do not worry, he will soon be fit and fine. Firstly check with your doctor if your child needs any supplements like Probiotics or Iron as this will Health Drink his immunity. Probiotics will strengthen his digestion as well. Next also check with your doctor when can you give Typhoid vaccine to your child to prevent any future illness. Regarding food if his appetite is back, then include coloured fruits and veggies, include them in soft cooked form, like khichadi, or added to rice, or added to chapati atta. Avoid giving raw as this can rite his intestines. In addition incurs his milk intake, offer as milk shakes, smoothies, custard, rava kheer, daliya porridge etc. Add powdered nuts and seeds this will help him to recover quickly plus Health Drink his immune system, If he is able to take egg, then boiled egg is another good food that can be given. Lastly avoid sugar or foods with added sugar as this will not only irritate his intestinal lining but also will weaken his immune system further. At the same time avoid bad fats like the ones found in fried foods/snacks. Do not worry slowly all will be fine. 2018-12-05 16:43:07

Hi Shwetha, Oranges are good in Vitamin C which is an immunity boosting nutrient. But if baby is getting cold/cough after taking it then avoid giving it. Instead you can include other foods that will Health Drink immunity like carrots, greens, yellow pumpkin, papaya, sweet potato, egg, meat, nuts and seeds. In addition avoid giving foods like soda beverages, health drinks as they are loaded with sugar and excess sugar also weakens immune system. Excess sugar can also reduce the working of Vitamin C, hence avoid adding excess sugar to baby's food. 2018-12-05 16:46:42

Hi Kumudha, Firstly baby’s immune system is still developing and in addition there are numerous cold causing viruses all around. So catching infection or cold is very easy. Plus as baby starts moving, chances are she will be putting everything in mouth and that can further increase the risk. To Health Drink baby's immunity, continue breast feeding and if baby is on Formula then go for the one which has Iron and Healthy fats as these will Health Drink immunity. Breast Milk is one of the best remedy; it boosts baby’s immunity, transfers some of your resistance to the baby, and provides nutrients to fight infection and also to recover from illness. Hi Priyamit, At this age babies are introduced to new foods. So best is to give only 1-2 solid feeds and only 1-2 tablespoon in each feed. Offer 5-6 milk feeds (150-175ml per feed) Continue with breast milk, do not stop or reduce it. As baby grows older you can give more amounts in each solid feed. Start with single foods, like pureed apple or rice cereal and when baby is well adjusted to it, you can offer other foods like, pureed carrot, sweet potato and mashed banana. Slowly you can move to ragi porridge, rava kheer, mashed dal, etc. Make sure you do not add spices or sugar to any of these foods. Also at this age, milk still remains the main feed hence do not reduce or replace with milk feeds. Sudden refusal to food or milk can be due to teething. Swollen and painful gums, Biting objects, drooling or saliva like fluid coming from mouth plus baby is irritable, refuses to eat or having problems in sleep, it all indicates that baby is on teething. When Babies are on teething, they do show poor appetite and this is very common. You may not be able to see the teeth but you can feel it by passing your clean finger around baby’s gums. Teething can be painful and that can cause pain and make baby irritable and can also affect baby’s sleep. So try offering soft foods, more of cold foods like cold mashed banana or cold apple puree or even try passing ice cube along baby’s gums or offer ice cold water in sips to ease the pain. Also, you can try rubbing your clean fingers on baby’s gums. Do not worry as its temporary and soon he will be fine. 2018-12-05 16:56:46

Next, regarding food, include coloured fruits, veggies, egg, meat, chicken, nuts and seeds as these are all immunity boosting foods. Frequent attacks can also mean some underlying deficiency. Hence get your child's VitD, Iron levels tested. Lastly avoid sugary and fat rich foods as this can further weaken his immune system. 2018-12-05 16:59:49

Hi Prachi, To improve her immunity, include coloured fruits, veggies, egg, meat, nuts and seeds in her diet. Also at the same time avoid sugar rich and fat rich foods as this can weaken her immunity. Kids at this age become very fussy and picky eater. They need variety in food and they want food in an attractive way. Also they prefer small meals not full plate of roti, sabji, dal, rice. Give them small nutrient dense 5-6 meals in a snack form in a day. To improve baby’s appetite, offer more of finger foods, which can be mainly sandwiches cut in different sizes, made with whole wheat Bread, cheese/paneer or veggie sticks or prepare omelet or pancake/paratha with different variations and cut it into different shapes with biscuit cutter. Offer milk as milk shake, smoothie with many varieties of fruits and veggies. Try to serve foods in an attractive manner. Be patient and offer small amounts in every feed. Avoid giving too many liquid calories like juices. Keep a gap between liquid and solid feeds. 2018-12-05 17:01:49

Hi Pooja, To Health Drink her immunity, include variety of colored fruits and veggies. Carrots, green beans, sweet potatoes, yellow pumpkin, greens, oranges, all contain immunity-boosting phytonutrients such as vitamin C and carotenoids, which help baby to fight germ and infection. Including egg meat and beans f is another way of boosting immunity. Also including Yogurt or food with probiotics added to Health Drink baby’s immunity. Make sure that baby is getting enough of healthy fats like omega 3, which are available from foods like, flax seeds, powdered nuts and fatty fish like salmon. Deficiency of Vitamin D can also weaken immune system. Check your baby's iron levels as low iron levels can also trigger infection and in case of deficiency baby should be put under appropriate supplementation. Finally avoid sugary foods as this can weaken her immune system. Using saline water to clean her nostrils is another way of taking her phlegm out. One more thing, try throwing out the tooth brush which is used during infection as this may carry germs. 2018-12-05 17:05:34

Hi Swati, All coloured fruits and veggies like Carrots, green beans, sweet potatoes, yellow pumpkin, greens, oranges, all contain immunity-boosting phytonutrients such as vitamin C and carotenoids, which help baby to fight germ and infection.Foods like, flax seeds, powdered nuts, like almond and walnuts and fatty fish like salmon are greets sources of healthy fats that help to Health Drink immunity. Lastly avoid sugar and fatty rich food as this can further weaken baby's immune system 2018-12-05 17:10:19

Hi Rajesh, Natural foods like colored fruits and veggies..Carrots, green beans, sweet potatoes, yellow pumpkin, greens, oranges, all contain immunity-boosting phytonutrients such as vitamin C and carotenoids, which help baby to fight germ and infection. Plus eggs, meat, chicken, milk, nuts and seeds also help to Health Drink immunity. Deficiency of Vitamin D can also weaken immune system. Check your baby's iron levels as low iron levels can also trigger infection and in case of deficiency baby should be put under appropriate supplementation. Finally processed foods with added sugar and unhealthy fats further weaken the immune system. 2018-12-05 17:12:45

Hi Pratiksha, Do not worry, asthma mainly shows some allergic reaction and it can be well managed by taking certain care and by healthy wholesome home made diet Colored fruits and veggies like, Carrots, green beans, sweet potatoes, yellow pumpkin, greens, oranges, all contain immunity-boosting phytonutrients such as vitamin C and carotenoids, which help baby to fight germ and infection. Egg, meat, nuts and seeds are also great foods. Try finding out if any food is triggering allergy or aggravating the symptoms , try removing that food from his diet. Deficiency of Vitamin D can also weaken immune system. Lastly check your baby's iron levels as low iron levels can also trigger infection and in case of deficiency baby should be put under appropriate supplementation Avoid excess sugar and unhealthy fats as this will not give any nutrition and on the other hand will weaken his immune system. Do not wororyy. All will be fine. 2018-12-05 17:16:23

Hi Jasmine, At this age your kid should be taking 2-3 cups of milk and 4-5 small meals. All foods included here will Health Drink her immunity. Foods like honey in milk or haldi and milk or ginger tea all help to give relief from throat congestion. Plus make her drink lots of warm water, warm soups etc. 2018-12-05 17:18:38

Hi Deepthi, 1. Serve more fruits and vegetables. – Focus more on colored fruits and veggies as they contain immunity-boosting phytonutrients such as vitamin C and carotenoids, which help baby to fight germ and infection. Phytonutrients may increase the body's production of infection-fighting white blood cells and interferon, an antibody that coats cell surfaces, blocking out viruses Boost sleep time, guard against germ spread & Finally avoid excess use of antibiotics. Lastly Processed foods, sugar, and soda can weaken the immune system. These “foods” add nothing in the way of nutrition, and if your children fill up on a lot of them, they are not likely to eat healthy foods with essential nutrients. This can lead to a weak immune system. 2018-12-05 17:20:50

Hi Jyothi, With any stomach infection and the medication that follows, healthy or good bacteria ion baby’s body get destroyed. This not only weakens the immunity but at the same time reduces appetite. To combat this discuss with your doctor and start with appropriate Probiotic supplements. To Health Drink baby's immunity, include variety of colored fruits and veggies and infant cereals fortified with Iron and omega to Health Drink immunity. Carrots, green beans, sweet potatoes, yellow pumpkin, greens, oranges, all contain immunity-boosting phytonutrients such as vitamin C and carotenoids, which help baby to fight germ and infection. Including egg ,meat and beans, yogurt or food with probiotics added will further Health Drink baby’s immunity. Make sure that baby is getting enough of healthy fats like omega 3, which are available from foods like, flax seeds, powdered nuts and fatty fish like salmon. Deficiency of Vitamin D can also weaken immune system. Lastly check your baby's iron levels as low iron levels can also trigger infection and in case of deficiency baby should be put under appropriate supplementation. Finally avoid use of foods with added sugar as this can further weaken her immunity. 2018-12-05 21:10:55

Hi Indira, Kids in growing age plus if they are very active often get hungry and ask for food. But if you feel that your child is eating more and still getting hungry more often then it is better that you get your child examined by your doctor. Your child’s height, weight plus overall checkup will help you to know your child’s health status. 2018-12-05 21:12:03

Hi Vidhyadhar, If baby is falling sick again and again, it means baby's immune system is weak. In addition to this the medications given particularly antibiotics further weaken the system. Hence it is advisable to start with Probiotics, which will help to build up healthy bacteria in the body and this will Health Drink immunity. You can check with your doctor on type of probiotics that can be given to your child. In addition to this include, coloured fruits and veggies like, Carrots, green beans, sweet potatoes, yellow pumpkin, greens, oranges, all contain immunity-boosting phytonutrients such as vitamin C and carotenoids, which help baby to fight germ and infection.Including egg, lean meat (If eating non veg) and beans is another way of boosting immunity. Deficiency of Vitamin D can also weaken immune system. Plus check your baby's iron levels as low iron levels can also trigger infection and in case of deficiency baby should be put under appropriate supplementation. Guard against germ spread. ... Make sure your child washes his hand often with soap, more importantly before and after each meal , after playing outside, blowing their nose, using the bathroom, and arriving home from daycare. Keep your child away from second-hand smoke as this can irritate or kill cells in the body. Finally avoid excess sugar and foods rich in added sugar and unhealthy fats. Sugar reduces the functioning of WBC's and foods like soda drinks, fruit juices, cakes, pastries and certain health drinks and cereals are all loaded with added sugar. The wrong types of fats (hydrogenated oils found in deep fried foods and snacks can increase the risk of getting infections and inflammatory conditions. Essential fatty acids (the good fats) Found in nuts and seeds are essential to normal immune and nervous system function. Good sleep and exercise are also equally important in boosting child's immune system 2018-12-05 15:48:01

Hi Narmada, All babies undergo hair fall in the first six months, which is normal and after that follows a stage where the hair growth starts. To help hair growth in babies, Wash your baby’s hair less often, turn your baby’s head while sleeping, allow baby’s back of the head to get some air by placing baby on his tummy 2-3 times during the day, massage baby’s hair lightly with baby oil, and do not use any chemical based hair products and avoid all sort of hair accessories like hair bands or clips. Regarding baby’s complexion, do not worry, make sure that baby remains healthy and does not fall sick. If you are breastfeeding then continue with it as this will help in keep her hair and skin healthy. 2018-12-05 21:12:46

Hi Nagavalli, Good Evening, repeated attacks of infection indicate that baby's immune system is weak. If baby is exposed to dust, pets and smoke particularly cigarette smoke, it can increase the risk of getting infection. Also if child is put on various antibiotics, then even that can weaken his immune system. Kindly check on all these. To Boost Your Child's Immunity, include more fruits and vegetables.in his diet – Focus more on colored fruits and veggies as they contain immunity-boosting phytonutrients such as vitamin C and carotenoids, which help baby to fight germ and infection. Phytonutrients may increase the body's production of infection-fighting white blood cells. .Get him enrolled into any sports or activity of this choice as this will also help in boosting his immunity. Lastly as you said you are not giving sugar rich foods, this will go long way in boosting your child’s immunity. 2018-12-05 21:14:02

All colored fruits, veggies, millets, grains, millets like ragi, jowar, bajra, milk, paneer, curd, nuts and seeds plus if you are taking non-veg then egg, meat are all immunity boosting foods. Lactation means lot of recipes made with ghee and sugar, try having them in moderation, try having more of home made recipes like whole wheat./ragi laddoo. Excess sugar in any form cam weaken your immune system plus will take longer for you to come back to your original weight. Hence avoid adding excess sugar to your foods. Lastly relax, and do not take stress as this will help in good milk supply. 2018-12-05 21:15:09
