The weight gain between 1 to 6 yrs of age is approx. 1-2 kgs in a year and weigh gain is intermittent. Avoid junk foods. Encourage fruit and vegetable intake and also eating together as a family. Offer frequent small quantity meals. As of weight, 16 kgs at his age seems ok but your pediatrician is the best judge as he will be tracking his growth chart. As he is prone to recurrent colds and mild wheeze I would suggest you go for influenza vaccination annually. 2015-10-10 11:48:04

Weight seems ok. But your pediatrician is the best judge as he is tracking his growth chart. Regular growth chart monitoring will help you in deciding whether the child is gaining weight as per the norms. Avoid visiting crowded closes places during this season and if child is ill with cold and cough avoid sending her to school till the child recovers as the infections spread by droplet infection, avoid close contact with people who are ill. Use tissues while sneezing. Avoid touching nose, eyes and the mouth frequently. Use hand sanitizer. As she is prone to recurrent colds and mild wheeze I would suggest you go for influenza vaccination annually. 2015-10-10 11:48:35

As she is prone to recurrent colds and mild wheeze I would suggest you go for influenza vaccination annually. Vitamin D intake at recommended doses and Vitamin C rich foods like oranges, berries are known to improve immunity. Children develop immunity to minor illness by going through the illness. Doctors usually suspect immune deficiency only for serious illness and not minor illness. 2015-10-10 11:49:03

Day care attendance places him at a higher risk for recurrent colds. Please vaccinate against seasonal flu and sensitize the care givers to avoid taking children who are sick. Avoid visiting crowded closes places during this season and if child is ill with cold and cough avoid sending her to school till the child recovers as the infections spread by droplet infection, avoid close contact with people who are ill. Dr. Ananda R
During evening generally body temp is higher than usual. At nights, if the child is covered too much and temperature is taken immediately you may perceive that as fever. 2015-10-10 11:49:52

Hello...my son is 2.6 yrs old..from the timw he was 7 months he has been falling sick every 15 days..mostly he suffers from cold and conjestion then cough due to which he runs a fever and we have to rush him to doctor. They always prescribe Fluzet, azithral, levolin ,ambroxilyin etc.. We have tried homeopathy too but its of no use..I am giving him kadas n all home remedys but all are not so effective for him they just aid in recovery. We want to switch to ayurvedic remedies. Can you please let me know how effective is himalaya septillin and himalaya tulsi capsules. What should be the dosage for him as he is 11 kgs.

This is the natural process of going through the illness and developing an immunity. If he is not been hospitalized, then we consider this as minor illness. The increase in frequency of these illnesses is seen in children who attend day care, play groups and cheches as they are exposed. Regarding Ayurvedic products, better to be discussed with an ayurvedic specialist. Cold and cough are usually spread by droplet infection. So, other family members who have cold and cough should stay away from the baby. Use tissues while coughing and sneezing. Wash hands frequently. 2015-10-10 11:53:07

Thanks for the reply. My son is 20 months old. He goes to day care and since, he has started it, he regularly falls ill. Everyone says it is normal, but doesn't it impact his growth and fitness. When sick, the child feels always irritated and doesn't even eat well. Can we do anything to ensure that he doesn't fall sick so often

1)Can we feed biscuits to babies who turned one. 2)At what age usually anti biotics are prescribed to babies? 3) is there any food that should be avoided for one year old.

Dr. Ananda R
Biscuits can be offered once in a while. Sweet food are generally avoided as they are not good for the developing teeth. There is no age limit for antibiotic prescription but every illness does not require an anti biotic. After completion of one year family food is recommended unless any specific allergy is noted. 2015-10-10 12:07:42
