My baby is 4 months old, but she is still not lifting up her neck on her own. Even when we hold her or support her neck, it is not very stable. Is this something to worry about. Please help?

Hi Vicas, babies start to hold their head steady by this time ie 3 months or so. As that is not happening, its worth getting her examined by your paediatrician for this. 2018-04-05 15:03:06

We took her to a doc and he said that she is okay and will start movement in a month or so. 2018-04-05 15:04:05

ok. The purpose of getting an examination done is to see if there is good body tone and to pick up any other problems. There were perhaps no such worries on her examination by your doctor. 2018-04-05 15:06:43

hi Sharda, babies start walking around 1 year of age. Some may start a month or so early and most would have done by 15 months. 2018-04-05 15:09:37

Hi Nisha, as per WHO 6 months . If your breast milk is not adequate, you will need to give him formula milk too as his requirement needs to be met. Get him weighed and if he is not putting on adequate weight, do supplement with top milk. 2018-04-05 15:17:34

I tried to feed him formula milk, but he vomits. I will try top milk. 2018-04-05 15:19:01

ok, you can also see if increasing solid feeds makes up for it. cows milk to be used around a year of age. 2018-04-05 15:20:34

Hi kalpana, its normal to be only mumbling now. Babies may not speak their first clear word till 1 year of age which is when most babies start speaking. 2018-04-05 15:26:33

My baby is 7 months. She is a down syndrome baby. She cannot hold her neck but can roll over. What should be the milestones to reach for her age? She is not taking any semi solid food also what should be done?

Hi Moumita, some delay may be expected . Usually neck holding comes before the ability to roll, but in downs syndrome there is particularly low body tone and hence this situation. swallowing and the coordination needed for it will also come in time ,give sloppier feeds that she is able to take in. 2018-04-05 15:32:01

Hi Richa, you will have to fulfil her milk requirement - ideally through breast milk and use formula as needed. is she gaining weight appropriately..? because if she is, then you need not worry - always put her to the breast first so that there is enough getting made by the reflex and supplement that feed or next with top milk if still hungry. 2018-04-05 15:37:41

the symptoms would be either persistent loose motions or constipation, discomfort, vomiting , eczema. I would suggest you start as the milk requirement will have to be met and then see how it goes. sometimes they are very mild and transient. 2018-04-05 15:53:23

If you are concerned about it, do discuss it in detail with your paediatrician on your next vaccination visit. 2018-04-05 15:58:17
