Hi, I have twin baby boys who are 10 months old. Only first twin started getting one teeth and second twin does not have teeths yet. I was giving them ragi porridge for breakfast, rice dal and green veggies with ghee and little salt finely cooked and blended for lunch and fruit or vegetable puree for dinner. From last few days they are not eating any of these. Twin 1 shows interest in eating whatever we eat and he is able to eat if we give him dosa/ rice with ghee and salt softened with hands. But he eats only this and nothing else. Twin 2 also shows interest but will not eat anything more than 2-3 spoons. He finds it difficult to swallow. He always ends up sleeping with only breast milk. Will breast milk be sufficient for him at this age? He is happy with only breast milk but I'm worried because both babies look thin. Please suggest me good diet for my babies for their age.

Hi Shruti,Hope you are doing good. Firstly salt and sugar is not required by babies below the age of 1yr.Since children at this age do not have a a potent system to detoxify the same from our body.Hence would request you to give it post they turn a year old. Your twins are becoming assertive and hence they would refuse certain foods or simply eat few spoons and do away with it.However make sure they are eating food at small intervals and feed them little quantity at a time.Breastmilk would not be sufficient at this age and hence you need to introduce other solid foods.Try and introduce new foods to their diet like chillas/soups/fruit custard/rice kheer/semolina kanji/rice pudding/mashed veggies/mashed banana/mashed cauliflower. Since your second child does not have teeth it is best to give him food which is of a thin consistency,do not make it too thick or he won't be able to eat it. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other queries :) HAPPY PARENTING! 2018-02-23 12:26:24

If you child is above 1yr then you can give not more than 4-5pieces of raisins and 2-3 cashews.Start with less first and do not give him excess of the same. 2018-02-23 12:30:16

Hi Shalu, Hope you are doing good. You can give your little one seasonal fruits, since with seasonal fruits there are lesser chances of catching cold. During this season you can stick to 1) Apples 2)Strawberry 3)Figs (2 only) 4)Pear 5)Pomegranate Hope this helps! HAPPY PARENTING :) 2018-02-23 12:33:19

Hi Pehu, Hope you are doing good Firstly go slow with your child. Eating potatoes and rice is isn't bad,the only thing you need to watch is the portions, that's it. Ways to add green leafy veggies- 1) You can puree it and add it to chillas/dosa/uttapam/idli. 2) You can make a soup of palak with other veggies. 3)Add palak to rice or khichdi. 4)Occasionally make a fruit juice and add few leaves of palak to it. 5)Make a sandwich and add some palak to it along with other veggies, similarly you can also make a roti wrap or roll. Hope this helps! HAPPY PARENTING :) 2018-02-23 12:37:33

Hi Suraj, Hope you are doing good. But why do you want to give frozen fruits to your child when we have so many fresh fruits available in the market ? Firstly your child is small and frozen fruits contain preservatives and almost all the nutrients are destroyed, hence giving frozen fruits isn't a great option. Opt for seasonal fruits and fruits which are easily available around. 2018-02-23 12:40:05

Hi Sudha, Hope you are doing good. Eating garlic isn't bad,but watch how much your child is eating. Mix the garlic with the food and give it to him,may be dal or sambar or any vegetable he likes. Make sure he does not eat more than 4-5 in a day. 2018-02-23 12:41:41

Hi Sandeep, Hope you are doing good. To protect your child from flu, here are few tips which you need to follow. 1) Eat and feed only seasonal fruits. 2) Wash the veggies properly and blanch them before cooking. 3) Give your child boiled water 4)Add herbs like basil, rosemary and oregano to the diet. 5)Use spices and herbs like cinnamon, turmeric, garlic and ginger in cooking. 6)Avoid giving your child outside food. 7) Make sure that chicken/fish/mutton is properly washed and cooked before given to the child (since during the changing climate it might carry infections) 8)Give only fresh food to your child. 9)Add soups, vegetable juice and yogurt to your child's diet. Hope this helps! HAPPY PARENTING :) 2018-02-23 12:47:17

Hi Anisha, Hope you are doing good. Yes,you can add ginger to soups, juices, sandwiches, rolls, khichdi, rice and so on. You can make a small cup of ginger juice and add some honey to it and give it to your child twice in a week, but first see how your child likes it. Start with little and then go on to increase the quantity :) HAPPY PARENTING! 2018-02-23 12:49:50
