hi Tejaswi, actually babies that young are not suitable to be given home remedies by mouth. If there is a cold also, use nasal saline drops to get rid of it - will help with cough too as it may be getting triggered by the drip from the nose. On the other hand, if its a persistent cough, best to have him examined. 2018-11-14 14:59:59

HI Haseeba, make sure he is well covered as the season changes and it gets windier and colder. Also , avoid close contact with anyone who has a respiratory infection. Take care that he is well fed. Use nasal saline drops to deal with blocked nose. 2018-11-14 15:04:32

hi Sandhya, usually severity of symptoms and xray would indicate if surgery is required or not. If the symptoms are generally getting better ( as they do with age), can wait and watch. If not, then medication is given and sometimes surgery is needed. mouth breathing is common in children with enlarged tonsils . The speech delay may /may not be linked to this . 2018-11-14 15:09:29

Hi Trinayani, if she sleeps well after a feed, has enough wet nappies in a day and is continuing to gain weight - then the milk intake is adequate. Fingers in mouth is also a natural reflex that she will grow out of ..is not such a worry. At night , you may gently remove her fingers from her mouth. 2018-11-14 15:12:42

Hi Krishna, sometimes the cough and cold take longer to improve especially if there is an allergy element also. If there is fever or worsening of cough, he may need to see the doctor again. 2018-11-14 15:18:45

hi Sameena, you are already giving him a decongestant and nasal drops. Now if these are not helping, you may need to review with the doctor again. Though congestion in babies may take long to clear and they do not always need medication all the way. 2018-11-14 15:57:49

Hi Preeti, you would need to use nasal saline drops for her to unblock the nose. They are safe to use in babies and can be used as frequently as 2 hourly also . Keep her well wrapped and warm. 2018-11-14 15:20:45

Hi Kathyayani, these medicines are for could/cough and work as decongestants. They may be used as per doctors advice only and overall as less as possible given her age. Mild cold does not necessarily need medication and usually nasal saline drops in the nose are enough.Make her sleep with her head end raised. 2018-11-14 15:24:26

Hi, doctor my baby is 6years old now a days she is making a complint that she couldn't sense when the motion is coming out?

Shipra Mathur
hi sushma, what is the motion like ? if its a hard stool, then it may be due to constipation and she would need to increase her fluid and fibre intake. on the other hand, if is watery motion - it may be an infection or happens as an overflow with severe constipation. 2018-11-14 15:27:38

hi jenifer, if the cold is mild you may be able to manage with simple remedies like warm water, nasal saline drops to unblock the nose etc. Some loss of appetite is expected with cold. If there is associated cough, she is unable to sleep or if the diet is now vey low- then its best to have her examined by the doctor so that appropriate medication can be given. 2018-11-14 15:31:45

Hi, yes antibiotics should be used only when there is a clear indication of a bacterial infection. Most of the infections tend to be viral and hence not needed. But high persistent fever, pus or very infected looking throat etc are valid reasons to prescribe them. They should be taken only on advise of the doctor in the dose and duration prescribed. Overuse can lead to antibiotic resistance in general and side effects. 2018-11-14 15:36:07

Fever is body"s response to pyrogens or antigens that may have come from the infection. It is a normal body response . 2018-11-14 15:39:46

Shipra Mathur
hi, gas problem is common and usually not a concern.should settle down. Urine- if this is a new symptom, then he may need a urine test to rule out infection. Though some babies do so normally anyway initially. 2018-11-14 15:52:11

hi, if they are eating reasonably well and active, their immunity improves by 5-6 years of age and these infections . with become less. Ensure enough vitamin C and protein intake in diet. Allergic . tendency does persist to a degree. 2018-11-14 16:00:14
