DIY Diwali Craft - A Lantern

Hello Everyone! Here is wishing everyone a Happy Diwali! Today I will be making a lantern to prep up your home for a special occasion like Diwali is also known as the Festival of Lights.

To make this lantern you would need: 

  • Any light colored chart paper 

  • Cardboard

  • Any two colored yarns 

  • Beads 

  • Acrylic or Poster Paints 

  • Paint brush

  • Ice Cream Sticks (20-25 in number)

  • Sequins or any other decorative material to decorate 

  • Fevicol 

  • A pair of Scissors 

  • A scale

  • A pencil or pen

  • Any battery operated light source

Procedure to make lantern:

 

  • Take a cardboard and cut out four pieces of size 24cm length and 13cm breadth. Now draw a rectangle keping 2cms distance from all the edges. Cut out on the lines drawn. 

  • Color the frames with any dark color of your choice. 

  • Take the ice cream sticks and color them with any three colors of your choice. 

  • Take a chart paper of length 24cms and breadth 56cms. 

  • Arrange the frames in such a manner that there is a gap of 0.5 cms in between the frames and leave 2cms at the end. 

  • Take two colored yarns to make the tassles and wind them 10 times around your 4 fingers. Tie it with a knot and leave approximately 15 cms of yarn for hanging it. 

  • Put these tassles on the folded marks and secure them with a piece of tape. 

  • Arrange the colored ice cream sticks by alternating the colors on to the frames and then paste these.  

  • Decorate the frames using sequins and other decorative material.

  • Now paste one edge to the other to bring the two sides of the lantern together using glue. 

  • Put the battery operated light / LED lights / electric bulb inside the lantern.

  • Make four holes on the four sides and insert the yarn through the holes for hanging the lantern.

 

Your Lantern is ready to decorate your home for Diwali!
