Healthy Summer Coolers or Drinks for Your Children

With the sun bearing down on us in its entire strength, let’s play it a little cool with some refreshing summer drinks. Our choice of summer coolers is healthy and devoid of any calorie-bursting colas and aerated drinks. They are just some smart spikes to the routine nimbu-paanis, tender coconut etc that we like to gulp down in the heat.





1 lemon
1 glass of water
Powdered sugar as per taste
½ tsp of saunf
Pinch of elaichi powder
Pinch of cinnamon powder
1) Boil the saunf, elaichi powder, cinnamon powder in a cup of water. Boil it down to half the quantity. Strain and keep to cool.
2) Once cool enough, add a glass of plain water to this, squeeze in the lemon and keep in the refrigerator to cool.
3) Serve with ice.
Benefits: Natural ingredients such as saunf and elaichi are known to have cooling properties and also aid digestion.




coconut ru
1 tender coconut
1 tbsp Rooh Afza or any other rose sharbat
Powdered sugar as per taste
Crushed ice
1) Pour the water from the coconut into a glass and strain to clear it.
2) Add a tbsp of Rooh Afza to it and mix in the powdered sugar.
3) Chill in the frifge.
4) At the time of serving, add ice cubes and serve with the coconut malai on the side.
Benefits: Tender coconut water is the only source of food that has natural electrolytes in it to balance the loss of salt from the body due to excessive sweating in the heat. But it takes a cultivated taste to fully appreciate it. Therefore the flavour of rose will make it more appetizing for the children.



ice tea
1 tea bag or a teaspoon on good quality tea
1 tsp of sugar or as per taste
1 glass of water
A pinch of elaichi powder
Juice of half a lemon
1) Boil the tea leaves in a glass of water and add sugar. If using tea bag, add one to a glass of water with dissolved sugar.
2) Add elaichi powder when hot.
3) Keep aside to make it cold.
4) Before serving, squeeze in the juice of half lemon and add ice cubes.
Benefits: Tea is known to have some beneficial anti-oxidant properties. Through just boiling and drinking you maximize those benefits.
