We live in a world where we are bounded by stress from all sides. We live a life where we slog the entire weekend, only to await the weekend, which we end up spending only in the horrors of the upcoming week. This vicious cycle seems to have no end and amidst all this, we have forgotten to live. We have forgotten to find happiness in small things of life and always anticipate for the bigger picture to seek happiness. We are on a journey to find happiness outside, only failing to look within ourselves where happiness is in abundance. What has happened to us, why are we dependent up on external factors to seek the needed pleasure whereas it only lies within ourselves?

In regards to this, the United Nations came up with the idea of International Day of Happiness celebration on a global level. Just as the other days, this day too is significant in our lives because we sure do deserve to pocket some happiness in the midst of our chaotic life.

What Is International Day Of Happiness?

It’s a day to be happy of course! It is since 2013, the UN has been celebrating this day as a way to recognize the importance of happiness in the lives of the masses, globally. In 2015, the UN launched the 17 Sustainable Development Goals that seek to end poverty, reduce inequality, and protect our planet.

With humans seeking happiness in various materialistic things, they forget how to hack happiness in life within himself/herself. There are various ways to increase happiness in life, if you tend to follow even a few of them, trust me, nothing can stop that glowing smile on your face to grow bigger and brighter. Below are a few tips to lead happiness in life, which does not contain the clichéd listening to your favourite music, dancing to the tunes of it, or going on a shopping binge. Yes, these tricks do bring you happiness in life but it’s just like a little cakewalk. So here I am, giving you various ways to increase happiness quotient in your life. Try them out right away.

  1. Don’t compare:

    You need to stop comparing yourself with others as it only invites negativity and takes your happiness away. Everyone has a different story, you too have a different one with your own version of twists in it. We only harm ourselves when we compare with others. If you want to be truly happy, know that you are as unique as everyone else and you are no better or less than anyone. If you wish to compare, only compare with your past self and your present self, so you can work towards a better future self
  2. Make adjustments:

    When something doesn’t go according to your way, your mood will instantly dip off, inviting sadness. But you need to go with the flow and have yourself adjusted as per the situation, which will help you in growing. If you eat something which makes your health poor, why eat it? Whenever you feel stuck or heavy, simply take a walk, breathe, or meditate and let go off the feeling and hope for a better tomorrow. You can pray to the Almighty to give you the strength to get past your obstacles with just the right amount of positivity that you need
  3. Take care of yourself:

    Happy people always keep giving back as they have plenty to share. So first, you need to keep yourself happy by looking after yourself, as only then you can pass on that happiness to others. It’s only when your cup is full, you can offer it to the rest, right? Take time to connect with different people, volunteer for a cause and engage in various activities. When your energy gets depleted, do not give away and always focus on keeping up with your emotional, physical and mental health
  4. Use your senses:

    Happy people receive happiness even from the simplest and tiniest of things. You do not need a bigger picture to be happy when you can find happiness in the tiny joys as well. You can find happiness through the warmth of your hot cup of coffee touching your bare hands on a cold winter morning, seek happiness when a piece of chocolate melts so smoothly in your mouth, smile to a stranger on the street who will reflect that smile back at you, play with a dog that will end up giving you love through a tiny wagging tail. You see how you can find joy in simple things?
  5. Be at peace:

    The point is, you need to stop focusing on being happy but rather be interested in your peace of mind, which is the key to seek happiness in your over-all well being. Do not get too attached to the highs and do not cling too much with the lows, learn to keep the right balance in life. In life there’s high and there’s low, but hey, that’s what life is all about! Nobody’s life is a bed full of roses, the thorns are there to give you different tastes in the course of life. When you are at peace, there is much contentment, which is directly proportional to the plethora of happiness that makes you feel at bliss

Apart from following these steps, you can continue doing what makes you happy in life. So go ahead, put up that lovely smile on your face and paint the town red! Because wherever you go, happiness follows.
