Hi all, My child has just become 6 months old. He can sit without support, and grasp things, point etc. I was wondering what sort of toys should I get him that will help him develop.

Hi Shipra ! Around 6 months of age child has learnt to sit without support and is ready to leap to next stage in a few months time which is crawling . It is advisable to look for toys which could improve child's visual and motor skills such as colorfull clothes balls , stacking blocks , rings, toys which makes light and sound on pressing buttons , reading books with pictures, showing real objects as shown in the book which will help them learn things actually exist, squeezy toys which will make sound on pressing. U can also make use of materials easily available at home. For example stacking of unbreakable cups or bowls , playing with spoons and bowls, playing with a small ball of dough, soft toys, making rattles by putting Dals in a small box which can be used later. PuttING things in and out of a basket . Hope this helps!

You can get him small cars or toys that move. this will propel him to push himself forward and he will start crawling on time.

stacking toys, nesting toys are some great concepts. they help in concept building for the little ones and the colourful colours keep them occupied. you could also give him atta to play with. he will like to mould it in his hands and yet it is safe.

Hi Shipra, one very effective idea i tried was with food colours. Mix food colours in water and stick large chart paper sheets on the floor and let the little one have fun. It is a very cathartic experience for them but without risk of harm. be prepared for mess though.

just spread his rattles and toys around and let him make the effort too reach them and play with them. it will strengthen his large motor skills also.
