Hi all... Plz guide me. My baby is now 1yr 5 months old. He is still on breast feed. I started giving him solid food after he was 6 months. I try giving him milk or any milk product even in different preparations but he doesn't eat/drink. He loves only fruits and fruits will only give him energy but not the gain in weight. He is very active but looks thin. Is it okay if he dosnt drink milk????

Hi Jyoti, 1) give him paneer, tofu and cheese slices instead. Milk thought is important, but rather than make the house a battleground, you can find alternatives such as lassi. If he likes fruits, have you tried a banana/cheeku shake? Or a fruit custard? Kheer--hot or cold? chocolate shake, or paediasure etc. ? 2) You could also add a few tea leaves and say that this is not milk but tea like mumma and papa drink and then make it a game for him for eg: lets see who finishes his tea first--baby or mumma. 3)Also, slowly and gradually instill in him the importance of milk by telling him stories on it--how lord krishna used to gulp down milk etc. children generally love these. 4) and last bt the most important, start with very small quantities such as only a small cup and let him feel the victory of having finished that. When children feel they have oversome something so distasteful but with so muh of ease, they look forward to the next one. Over weeks, increase the quantities gradually. Hope these tips help you.

Hi Jyoti, you should be happy that your baby is atleast having mother's milk. My baby is 20 months old and quitted mother's milk long back and now also not taking milk or any other milk products. She eats cheese slice or have little curd very rarely, but not as much as required. I have tried all variants of milk shakes, different sippers, glasses but no success. The last solution, which I never wanted, would be that doc will put her on calcium supplements.

Jyoti, one more thing. Babies at this age should have 400 ml of milk or milk products to get enough calcium for their body. Try to feed him milk/milk products in ways suugested by Rachna and hope that your baby likes one of those. All the best.

Thanks rachna and gunjan for your valuable comments. But as i mentioned "no milk, no milk products, and milk preparations" are liked by my baby. One day he will just take a sip or two from my tea, another day he will just have a spoonful or two of curd and third day may be two three sips of cold coffee from his father's breakfast... Thats it. Still i keep trying. I tried force ful feeding also but that too didn't work. I see kids of his age having two glasses of milk everday... That makes me feel very bad and i feel as if am not taking proper care of my baby. :-(
