My 10month old baby just refuses to drink water. Tried sweetening the water with jaggery etc. but not working. Due to this he has become constipated. Can anyone pls suggest me some home remedies to relieve his constipation and any tricks or ideas to make him have water..

Helli darshita, try giving your baby water from different color sippers n cups..... Just the container might attract him n he might drink water little little from each one of them.....

Hey Darshita, the following parent talk is on a similar query. Please copy and paste the link in your browser. https://www.parentune.com/parent-talk/baby-doesnt-drink-water-at-all/340

another thing you could do is give him water in his bottle while he is sleeping.. he will end up drinking some, try flavoring it, as suggested in the parent talk mentioned above.. and fruits help a lot with constipation, You could try giving him a serving of papaya to clear his tummy.

Hi Darshita, First of all stop worrying about your baby not drinking water. Till one year of age, infants don't really require water as a an essential nutrient. They get fluids that they need through breast milk & formula milk which is 70%-80% water. And your child may not necessarily be constipated due to lack of water. Some children get constipated even due to formula milk. If his nappies are wet several times a day, you shouldn't really worry. However, its a good idea to keep trying giving him water so that he gets used to drinking it by the time he turns 1 year. Try the following: a)sippy cup/straw cup b)keep a variety of sippy cups & keep offering a different one on & off. He may take fancy to any one of them in due time, c)children love to mimic their parents, so let him see you drinking water more often, d)also, try offering water from your glass. This has worked for a lot of parents. For constipation, as suggested by Bhavna, try pureed prunes or pureed pear. All the best!

Also for constipation try increasing fruit/ vegetable intake by one portion. If you can include a portion of banana, papaya, carrots pureed during mealtimes, please do so. In the evening, with your usual food, include a small mashed banana, or some microwaved apple. It should help.
