Try to use only at night time. There is no problem in using all day but babies will feel uncomfortable. it's like how do we feel when we use pads all the day. that's why people suggesting to use only at night

I feel diaper usage is a more personal choice... some people are comfortable using it the whole time some are not... there is nothing right or wrong... but if you do use diapers make sure you change it every 3-4 hours depending on the number of times your baby has peed. you also get diapers which are designed to be worn for 12 hours.. these can be used at night so that you don't need to wake the baby only to change diaper. though be aware of how full the diaper is as a full diaper can give your baby rashes. Also take care to dry your baby's bottom fully before putting in a diaper. My baby has never had any diaper rashes till now (Touchwood) so I really don't know about rash prevention cream.
