Hi All, I am in a confused state right now. Me and M wife are working professionals. Due to this we are unable to spend quality time with my Son. However, since I Stay with my parents, he is looked after. Now, issue is from next year he will be going to 1st Standard and since both of us are working. Unable to figure out how can I ensure that his development is not compromised even though my wife continue to pursue her career. Any suggestions is much appreciated. Regards, Rajnish

Hey Rajnish! Admire the thought for the road ahead for your son. You may find these couple of readings handy. One talks about fostering early years of development in children and another one about how do we spend quality time with our child in a crazy/busy schedule. Here are the URLs. https://www.parentune.com/parent-blog/fostering-early-years-of-development-for-your-child/357

You may get several ideas from these two readings. I would also suggest you to have an exclusive 1X1 time with your child over an interesting activity. for e. g. it could be a story which you read out to your child, it could be a sciene fact which you decode for your child everyday over that exclusive 1X1 time- like, why do we see the sky as blue and not any other colour, or why do the stars sparkle and so on. Also try and keep at it consistently over a period of time and you shall find visible development in your child and moreover you shall be able to get a feeler on what are your child's interest areas..... knowing this is most important perhaps for a parent to then provide the right inputs/resources/opportunities. Hope this is of help Rajnish. All the best!

Hi Rajnish! It is indeed a challenge for working parents to balance between work and home. Ur query is quite pertinent when holistic development of child is of utmost importance. it is advisable u cud take following steps for child's overall development. One: for physical development u cud take him to do park nearby n involve him in physical activitiesight such as playing swings, running, catch d ball, skating, swimming etc. u cud play with catching balls or hitting on target which will develop fine n gross motor development. Two: for language development: whatever time u get to spend

Two: for language development: whatever time u get to spend with the child u can try n speak in short simple sentences. help the child converse in English, teach him basic mannerism, try n elaborate his sentences in correct format. Teach him sight words. u cud read out short simple stories to her. make him practice words. Three: for cognitive development: u cud give practical knowledge for example if u r traveling n u see dried leaves on road u cud talk about autumn season. u cud talk about road signs, animals n their sounds, homes, young ones etc. talk about earth, planets, sun. practical knowledge is retained better n for longer period. So make the best use of outings. Four: for social development u cud tell him how to greet grandparents, make them feel special by making cards for them, giving them surprise gifts, behaving nicely, following their instructions n last but not d least children cud learn from their experiences n knowledge.
