He is able to understand many things and able to show gestures and postures to indicate something. But hesitant to speak letters or words to indicate. Even he is speaking pada or maa very very less frequently may be around 1 times in 3 to 4 days. Me and my wife used to a speak a lot with him in order to make him understand things. He understood many things but not spraking. Is there any way to improve his speaking ability?

Dr. Shashank ! it advisable to consult a speech language pathologist to rule out any underlying cause. u could try talking a lot as u have mentioned u r already doing so, sing songs for him, read out stories to him, don't give in to gestures, keep asking " what do u want? do u want milk (show him the milk bottle)continue repeating till tries to imitate u. praise him when he says in words ..clap for him, hug him , so that he knows this is how he is supposed to express his needs . but please do consult an expert . hope this will be of help to u!

Hello!.. regarding your childs speech matter then I would like to share that some children they speak a little later than other kids ... My neighbours child she started speaking at 2 yrs 7 month months... they too were worried an went to the doc... the doctr told them not to use many languages initially with babies... talk in one language so that he can be familiar with one nicely. !... do not worry! :-)
