child very fond of dressing up

I have a 5 year old daughter. She is very fond of dressing up, playing grown up etc. The problem is that if i put lipstick, she wants it too. or if i put nail paint, she wants it too. i know it is normal, infact to support her, iv stopped using cosmetics in front of her. the problem is that sometimes, i feel, she is jsut too focussed on this. she will keep tossing her hair around and dressing up and not want to do anything else. even when we have to go out somewhere, she fights a lot over getting dressed. I want this fascination to get reduced somewhat. please suggest ways.

Hi Monika, this is a natural thing especially with girl children who epitomize their moms. So, don't worry, she will be ok. But if you think this is distracting her too much, you could try one thing: buy her a mock makeup box.. put some safe things in it like a good quality lip balm, a small blush etc. and give it to her to play with once a day. let her have her fill. tell her that at home she can do what she wants to but when stepping out with family, she should listen to you. this may help.

Hi Monika, most girls go through this so don't worry. But if you think, this is distracting her, then you could define rules such as get her a safe lip gel, but no blush. let her comb her hair, the way she wants to, but no hair gels. These rules will spell out to her what is allowed and what is not.
