Constipation in 3 year old

1 to 3 years

Hi parents, My 3 year old daughter is suffering from constipation. She also keeps on complaining about pain in her stomach. Please suggest how to curb this problem. Do I need to change her diet, avoid milk? She is too young to not give her milk because she is a fussy eater and won’t eat many things.

1. give one spoon of gulukand 2. Make her involve in some physical activities(skating/cycling,swimming). 3. give everyday bowl of dal(reduce milk) 4. if nothing helps u can go for homeopathic doctor.

Hi, give her lots of water. Fruit juices like juice of Apple, pear or plums will help a lot. Intake of prunes , papayas regularly will soften the stool. Soups of drumstick leaves and the soft stem of greens will be a good laxative. U can increase her physical activity. Also u can give an abdomen massage to relieve constipation. Avoid white breads and excessive potatoes. Hope this helps!

Hi dear Ankita! U cud also increase fat intake. It will lubricate stools n child will feel less of pain while passing stools. fat can be given by applying ghee on paranthas, butter, malai parantha etc, one apple everyday, or 2-3 slices of papaya r of great help. Avoid giving packed juices, refined flour based food items, junk food. Add more of fiber n keep d child well hydrated. U cud also give stool softeners such as lactulose after consulting doc. These will break the vicious cycle. Try giving Kheers such as rice kheer, sabudana kheer or suji kheer which will give extra nutrition plus fiber n help in relieving constipation.
