Hello Di Ya, at this age children like to experience whatever is around them through their 5 senses. Since in the case of children, the lips arethe most sensitive part of the body and the tongue with its tastebuds is the most fast developing organ... they put everything into their mouth to experience all objects. Give her some finger food.. so that she can put it into her mouth... actually she wants to eat herself.. She does not know that she must not have all these things... so tell her "No" in a firm but soft voice whenever she tends to do all these things. Your repeated alert will definitely develope a sense of what is right and what is wrong in her.

hi Di Ya! the baby is not dirty , her habits are. please don't scold the child as it could be possible that the child is not doing so wilfully and just can't control her urge to lick . there could be many reasons behind licking of non -food items such as Vitamin deficiencies, PICA, Sensory Processing Disorder due to which child is unable to organize info and is hypersensitive to smells and flavours. please consult your pediatrician to rule out any underlying disorder. be patient with her and help her overcome this habit.
