Hi Monika, many kids love chocolates and sweets. My son also has a sweet tooth and we give deworming pill once in every 4 or 5 months. U can explain him about worms. Also u can explain him about the high calory in sweets and he might become obese soon if he eats lot of sweets. U can avoid having chocolates in house. Also u can ask him to restrict taking it, like first u can say him to take one small chocolate a day and that too before evening so that he can play and burn that extra calory. Then slowly u can make it one in a week and then occasionally. U also can make sweets at home with jaggery or black panai jaggery occasionally which will be healthy for kids.

Some sweets made with oats, ragi flour are really healthy so that u can make them once in a week and u need not worry as well. Once the kid gets used to such healthy items he might forget chocolates.

Hi dear Monika! Well I completely agree with Meenambigai Rajesh. U cud also use sweets as a reward for the child. U cud show him on internet pictures of teeth with cavities, missing teeth etc n tell ur child this has happened bcos these children used to eat lot of sweets. It is advisable to share the same message with Stories, examples of children who used to eat lot of sweets. U cud also prepare chocolates at home with honey, low sugar etc at home itself but tell him to earn it by behaving well. Also u cud keep sweets out of his reach, out of sight by removing it from refrigerator. N also all other members at home shd avoid eating sweets/ chocolates in front of children . U cud also pass on the same message to relatives not to bring sweets at home. All these steps are necessary for child's healthy teeth, good health and saving him from other health related problems later in life. Hope this works!

Dear Monika, it is fine to allow your child to have sweets and chocolates occasionally. But if your child is demanding more than what is healthy, then the best way is to keep no sweets at home (or atleast make sure he doesnt find them). I agree with Shikha, show him tooth decay pictures and help him understand the after effects of eating too many sweets. This will surely have an impact on him. Hope this helps :)
