Hi Tejashwini, Addition is the fundamental concept to learn multiplication as it is repetitive addition. So start with pattern recognition, skip counting, simple addition and then repetitive addition to learn multiplication. Memorizing tables will not help. Btw there is no ICSE syllabus for LKG and UKG. Syllabus will be designed by each individual school.

Tejaswhini, in addition to what Carol has mentioned please teach him by making groups say 2×3=6 can be explained as 2 groups of 3 items each or vice versa . for instance : if he and his best friend have 3 books each, how many books they have in all or for example: 5×2 can be explained as 2 hands have 5 fingers each. so total no. of fingers would be 10. teach him to make groups horizontally as well as vertically by representing the items as circles or triangles.. also u could make it fun with playing cards.. u pull out a card from your pile and he picks one from his and then u need to multiply the two numbers. math is fun, which rote memorization would take away thereby make it boring for the child.. visual representation has a great impact, put charts of times table in his room. so it's better u spend forty five minutes to 1 hr everyday on a concept and do it the fun way by using innovative methods. hope this helps!
